additional tips

Recommended Posts

We left an extra $30.00 for our stateroom attendant. We don't always leave extra if we have had little or no contact or if the attendant hasn't been friendly or helpful which has happened on a few cruises.

Following.

I leave $50 and my gf tells me that I'm crazy - she says $40 is plenty.

I also tip an additional $1 per drink. (She doesn't seem to mind me doing that as the drinks are generally strong and we never have to wait for a drink)

I always do the $1/drink tip, also.

I tend to get damn good service in return.

Yup - it's great because when playing Craps I never have to order, they just keep them coming - or if I'm in need I can just wave at them across the casino.

I always leave my cabin steward $5 per day if the service was good. A flat $20 if not.

As a D+, I'll tip $2 cash per drink if not in one of the lounges (this really helps the service along if you go back). Usually $20 to the concierge at the end if he/she did anything to deserve it, and $20 for the servers.

In every other scenario, I am an exceptionally generous tipper. On cruise ships, I do nothing. The cruise line decided they know best what amount everyone should get and they CHARGE me for it. Thank you Royal Caribbean for taking it out of my hands, I will take you at absolute face value and never give it another thought. Much like the pilot of my aircraft or my dentist, it is no longer a tipping culture by mandate of the corporate entity.

My thoughts exactly. First time we were in anthem with our kids, the room attendant was always present and interacted with our kids. Tucked away our sofa bed every morning and opened every evening. That deserved extra, which I gladly gave him.

Second time around, hardly ever saw the attendant, sofa bed was never put away. In a small balcony room, the couch takes up space. We had to request soaps and shampoo more than once. I didn't feel bad about not leaving extra. It all depends.

Agreed entirely.

Out of three cruises taken:

1st. Excellent stateroom attendant. $20 spot given.

2nd. Lazy, non-existent stateroom attendant, that was only seen to ask for a good review on our after cruise survey. NO TIP! And, bad survey for him.

3rd. Excellent stateroom attendant. $20 spot given.

Today's society seems to believe that a "Tip" is the same as a "Wage".

In my eyes, they are grossly mistaken.

A "tip" is for service given, above what they are getting a "Wage" to perform.

I am a very generous tipper. But, it is NOT automatic that they get a tip.

I will ask for an employee to get their manager, and scare the Hell out of them, to commend exemplary service. Then, they get a smile.

But, I will do the same, to critique them for crappy service or attitude.

Fire - I love this. While you and I differ slightly on tipping, an action like this closes the gap. Seeking out a worker's boss to praise their work is priceless.

i usually find my stateroom attendant first thing and give him/her a $20. If they provided great service, then at the end i give them another $20. always tip the barkeeps, usually $10-20 at some point during the cruise. i always get terrific service with or without additional tips.

That's hilarious. They just look at me across the casino, and I give a nod.

Or, the peace sign if I'm really thirsty at a slot or BJ table.

Attitude goes a loooong way.

I keep our cabin clean, and tidy. Just like the towels replaced, and the bed made daily.

On my last cruise, I asked the attendant for ice in our bucket.

He asked what we needed it for. Then, he responded that he was going to get us a fridge instead. That kind of service deserves a tip in my book.

Just wondering, why would you give your attendant $20 ahead of time when you just boarded? When you sit down in a restaurant, do you give the server a tip when you just got your menus?

A lot of variables: How long the cruise is, what kind of cabin I am in, how much I see/interact with/have our minor requests met by them, etc..

With that said, we've done anywhere from $20 - $100 extra, in cash, for the stateroom attendant. As stated above, they are already being paid a tip that Royal feels is adequate, so anything I leave is for exceptional service above and beyond.

I recently returned from b2b cruises (19 days) on Radiance. I spend a lot of time playing cards and on these cruises, I had a server who would bring the bottle of wine to my table anytime my glass was less than 1/2 full. I had to stop him on several occasions to take a break. He would even bring my husband drinks and he's not even a gambler. I always tip $1 for every free drink I receive and he appreciated it. (The cruises were in NZ and AU where tipping isn't normally done.)

It's been my practice on all my cruises and i've always had great service from my attendant. I do it as an incentive and it works :) to each his own.
