you are a bawler!!

Now i need to figure out how to charge $60k worth of stuff to the ncl credit card

You get triple points for Booking and paying for NCL cruise, so book a $10,000 cruise, pay it off and get 30,000 points[emoji3]

When doing the "within meta 2 category upgrade" from B3 to B1, are you able to pick the cabin you want? If I'm doing a Panama Canal B2B (total 41 days) will they let me upgrade to the same B1 cabin for both cruises as long as it is available?

Yes, I was able to pick my cabin. I looked on ncl’s website for which cabins were still available. It saves time if you do the research before calling.

None. Can't be done

Thanks, just found that out by scrolling through posts that mini suites, suites and haven are excluded

Have to wait and see if upgrade fairy comes calling.

Will just bank the points for Alaska next year and upgrade from an ocean view to balcony

FYI, I don’t think you can upgrade to aft balconies either.

No more upgrade fairy. You now have to BID for any upgrades and there is no guarantee that you will win. Successful bidders typically find out about their upgrades just a couple of days before sailing.

If I book an inside room then use points to upgrade to outside, will I get perks associate with outside?

I was told no when I upgraded us from inside to balcony using a double cross meta.

If you find out differently please report back here so I can go argue! lol

Thanks! Good to know. This gives me knowledge to compare the two. The OBC and perks are more valuable then points so I will just book outright the cabin I want then get statement credit. I need to book soon since my points expired in Feb, 2019.

That is correct. The upgrade is complementary on your statement so even though you end up in a balcony you get the perks for what you originally booked.

The perks are not always the better deal. If you take long cruises then double meta upgrade is worth about 10 cents per point.

1) you cant do the meta upgrades from a sail away guarantee room, right? (ix/ox to guarantee balcony bx)

2) my land casino (Caesars) gives me a 20% discount on all ncl cruises (plus a casino drink card).

i think i go through CAS to get that discount.

i read that you cant use points to do meta upgrades on free CAS cruises.

but can i use points to do meta upgrades on 20% discounted cruises by my land casino?

We have the two B of A cards like you -- NCL and Alaska Airlines. We have healthy credit limits on both -- $18K and $14K. I always pay off the balance every month.

We got the Alaska card primarily for the companion fare and are using it to fly to Seattle for an Alaska cruise on NCL next month. We also have family in Oregon and fly up there occasionally to visit them.

Can you tell me if the companion fare on Alaska Airlines is valid on First Class (buy one First Class ticket and receive a First Class companion ticket free)? Or is it like the Delta companion fares which strictly apply to main cabin. Many thanks🌞

Sorry, but I don't know. We go for the cheapest fare.

  • 2 weeks later...

You should be able to. Call the rewards number and they will let you know, you may have to be “rebooked” into a higher category OV if there aren’t any balconies available in a comparable category to your current OV. If that is the case I suppose it could mean you might have an upcharge, but the only way to find out is to call and ask.

Hi Mag19,

Would you please let me know how this worked out for you? I called NCL world points redemption this morning to do the exact upgrade you were looking for. I was told that they changed their redemption requirements for the single meta upgrade (although they could not tell me when the changes happened).

Problem is that the NCL world points website is still advertising a single meta upgrade for 30k points. I told Jacqueline I want them to honor what their website is showing.

Jacqueline said her supervisor is out recovering from surgery, and he would be back next Wednesday. She said she would give me a call back then.

I was wondering where I contact to do the meta or double meta upgrade. Is it NCL or is it World Points with the credit card. I sure hope that they didn't up the points that it takes to do this! I'm thrilled that I'm almost at the double meta points! I guess that it's only worth it to upgrade this way if there's more then a $200. difference between the rates, from what I've read here????

How many points did they say a single meta upgrade is now? What number did you call?

I called the 866-954-4077 number. I was told that 30,000 no longer gets a single meta upgrade, and I did not ask how many points it would be, since I am not willing to use more than 30,000 points. What kills me is they are still advertising this reward. I believe they should honor it, but don't think they will. I am going to speak with Jacqueline next week after she speaks to her supervisor, and see how it works out. I so hate getting blindsided like that.

It does not surprise me that they would devalue the world points as a cost cutting measure. They never fail to surprise us with their little changes. I have 2 cruises left to pay for next year, and after I pay them, I will most likely get rid of the NCL MasterCard.

I just booked an Alaskan cruise in a B3 and used 10,000 points to upgrade into a B1. I just wanted to reconfirm that you can get a B1 with Worldpoints but you must get there from a B3 at least on the Jewel. I saved $1100.00 with only 10,000 points. Sure beats $100 OBC. I am a happy cruiser!
