First time NCL Cruises heading on the Getaway June 3 - Want to answer some questions?

I am sailing on the Getaway June 3 with a buddy of mine. We usually sail Carnival, so this is our first NCL ever. Pretty excited, actually. I have a list of questions. I'll have more later as he will also.

1) Do they give out free lanyards? Carnival does at the casino

2) Do they give out any freebies that you are aware of? Carnival will give you a free corkscrew with the Carnival logo on it from room service if you ask, and if you go to guest services, they will give you a free deck of playing cards with the Carnival logo on it. There are some other little freebies as well.

3) Are there any "secret" decks? For instance, on the Carnival Sunshine, several decks will allow you to to all the way to the front, take a door to the side that actually walks you around to outside on a non used deck. Obviously it's not a secret, but feels like it.

4) Where is the coin?

5) Many people will say no. But can you bring your drone on board? I have read most people say you can't, but I've read some people have and they know from experience. Carnival's website says they don't allow it, but I've taken it on every cruise. I really want to take mine even if it has to sit with security between ports. Here is the recap from my last cruise. Watch this and you'll understand how much I love using it.

6) What free drinks are at the buffet? Water tea and lemonade or what?

7) I'm told Paquio Fuchs is the cruise director, but his social media presence is very low. Looks like just a personal Facebook page and that's it. Does anyone know if he has a public FB or Instagram profile?

8) Who is the captain?

9) How is the Internet?

And please feel free to give us any other info. We love to cruise and enjoy experiencing EVERYTHING a ship has to offer. We usually base our cruises on the ship, not the ports.

1 no

2 no, but the booking bonuses like free drinks, specialty dining, etc

3 no, but keep moving higher and forward to less used sundecks

4 don’t know

5 absolutely not

6 apple, cranberry, orange juice in morning. Ice tea, flavored water rest of day. Coffee, tea, milk all day.

Book shows and dining 120 days in advance. If you don’t do it online, you must do it on embarkation day. The touch screen kiosks are the easiest way to do this.

I believe that is only for Haven guests, for the rest of us it's 90 days prior to sailing

Be sure to book the two shows online. Burn the Floor is my favorite show at sea. And also their performance in The Tropicana Room during the week. Their high energy is astounding. Also book any specialty restaurants you might feel you will want to enjoy. I especially enjoy Cagneys and Modernos(both on Deck 8). Cagneys, the filet. Modernos, go with the filet, lamb, ribs. Forget the chicken, sausage, flank steak. The 24 hr comp restaurant O'Sheehans (Deck 7) offers Prime Rib the first day, Shrimp & Ribs the 2nd nite, and repeats these during the week. I always enjoyed the relaxed Taste restaurant(Deck 6) for breakfast, avoiding the rush of the buffet(Deck 15) first thing in the morning. Enjoy yourselves.

Your video is awesome! I can see why you want to bring the drone.

  • 2 weeks later...

To answer the people asking what coin. In modern times, cruise ships "hide" the coin somewhere on the ship. Like mounted in a wall or a step or here or there. Some people find it fun to try to find the coin and take a picture of it. I always forget to look for it until after the cruise lol
