Morning all.

Wondering if anyone can assist with the timings required for the following.

We arrive in new jersey 27th sept. Looking at flying straight to honolulu.

How long should i allow to get to the airport? Is a 10am flight do-able?

And which is the best airport to fly from when disembarking in New Jersey

Thanking you all in advance

Karen

It looks like you're on the Adventure arriving back at Cape Liberty on Friday, Sep 27, 2019. That's a long way away and flight choices are not yet available.

Newark Airport is the closest airport to Cape Liberty at 11 miles away. Your ship is scheduled to arrive at 6 am coming from Boston with a sea day, so that should be a reliable arrival time. If you self disembark and get yourselves off the ship promptly, a 10 am flight should be doable. You should plan to be at EWR no later than 8-8:30 am. On a Friday morning you will have morning rush hour to contend with.

Your transportation costs will increase if you choose La Guardia or JFK airports and you will need to take a later flight. Figure $20/person to get to EWR via shared shuttle. For the other airports you will pay at least $100+ for a private car service.

Just a quick note - depending on OP's preference for airlines, I would not recommend LGA not because of ongoing congestions, rather it will be at least a 2 stops connection to get to HNL, additional stopover/layoff = more travel time & risks for delays.

JFK like LGA, will require at least 90 minutes to 2 hours ground travel time on a weekend, from my commuting experience over the years, to comfortably get from Cape Liberty out to south Queens for the airport - that's crossing under/over 2 river on a weekday - not to mention the substantially higher car service fares (or, Uber/Lyft ... assuming the driver is good & familiar with different routes) Also, late September, I am not 100% sure if the annual United Nations General Assembly will be over, most likely not an issue, that there won't be any VIP motorcades with police escort & stopping other traffic while doing their executive protection details with frozen zones & road closure ... usually confined to the East Side of Manhattan but also - sometimes - on key airport routes (JFK is often preferred)

Unless there is a substantial difference in the one-way airfares between EWR and JFK, I am doubtful - been looking at options for this "winter" for someone planning to sail the POA from Honolulu - add the easily $100 ground transfer cost for coming into NYC - go Kayak with options on that side of Hudson River.

My concern with a 10 am flight from EWR is that as an Australian citizen the OP might be subject to a lengthier screening process by CBP upon disembarkation. They might be fully screened in Boston, but I've seen CBP go both ways on cruises with a US port call prior to a US disembarkation . Sometimes they've done the full immigration screening in the port of call, making disembarkation very fast, but I've also seen only cursory screening done at the port call with full screening at the disembarkation port. If the do the latter, the OP, as a foreign national, may not be able to disembark that quickly.

Also 6 am arrival doesn't imply that disembarkation is going to start that early. It depends on the arrival of the longshoremen that handle the baggage as well as the CBP officers .

Being able to get to EWR by 8 to 8:30 is not a sure thing.

Thankyou everyone for the prompt and extensive info.

Yes we are on Adventure in 2019 but being an organiser i am checking flights for this year to get a heads up on whats possible.

Hmm hadnt figured in the immigration. Many thanks for that reminder. Last time we were over that side we did full immigration at first port which was boston so hopefully the same, however that does change my mind re flights. Just incase.

Luckily with the ESTA we went thru the quick lines as we're already security checked so to speak. Or did so last time. Might have changed now.

Once again many thanks. Might consider an overnight prior to flying to HNL. Just need to be in HNL by the 30th to catch Ovation back to Sydney :D:D:D😁

Thanks karen

Hi Karen,

We are the other Aussie on this cruise. Also starting to look at what flights might be available, and from what airport and how long it takes to get there.

We need to fly to Miami the afternoon of disembark to pick up a cruise the next day. Having never been to NYC, where thinking of having a few hours there to look around then fly later in the afternoon. Thankfully ours is only a 3 hr flight.

We need to work out how to get into NYC and how long we will need to get to the airport in the afternoon ?
