Long layover, LHR suggestions (F lounge?)

We've just changed what we felt was a slightly tight connection at LHR and now we have a 7 hour layover, if all flights are on time. Given it will be winter time, we just felt there were too many chances for delays on the first leg.

It will be something like a 5am arrival, and a noon departure.

We are F class on BA, and I think there is a nice lounge in LHR?

What are the nicest places for the two of us to relax, to take a nap, to eat?

Is there anything outside the lounge (but nearby) that we should be aware of?

Note: We are considering trying within 2 weeks of departure, trying to go Lufthansa F through FRA, but we understand that without the right "standing", we can't get awards seats on that until shortly before departure date, if availability still remains.

IF that were to become available, would that be better, as we have heard?

At this stage in our lives/travels, when we can go F, we are trying to make the air travel to be it's own special part of the trip. We'll go a bit out of our way to have a special experience.

(On our list, the new Singapore Suites, with the faux double bed, but we are especially interested in for the full rollout of the new version. :) IF we tried for that on this trip, with the 'older' but still very special Singapore Suites, it would mean an extra connection to fly out of NYC. But we did that "extra connection for a better flight/class" earlier this year, for the special JL F from JFK to Tokyo, even though it meant staying over at JFK. Yup, a bit crazy, but there was no JL F out of our local airport. Yes, it was worth it, especially for a 14+ hour flight!)

Thanks!

First Class on BA with a 7 hour layover at LHR?

Concorde Room

Google and YouTube

Thanks!

Looks good :)

We've just changed the return to maximize the time at LHR, too, rather than what had been arranged, which was way too much time at the Oslo airport, 7+ hours.

Does anyone know why there is (so the AA rep said) a minimum connection time of 3 (count 'em) hours at OSL?

Yes, we'd be changing airlines, but that's not even required at much larger airports (or has that changed recently?).

We had what I started thinking was a too tight connection at LHR.

And if we missed that... no idea how they'd get us another pair of F seats on almost no notice.

(AA plat rep kindly offered that they'd put us in coach and figure out how many points to refund us. Uh, noooo. *Coach*!? Not try to put us on business before even looking at coach?)

Thanks.

Concorde Room

It depends on the itinerary, though: It would help to know what it is so that we can check whether or not the OP will get access to the Concorde Room.

It may depend on the itinerary. Airlines have an incentive to minimise the published MCT, so if there really is a published MCT of 3 hours for a particular connection, it is likely to have a story attached to it.

Just as a word of warning you may not be able to access the Concorde Room. We were transiting in LHR and had booked spa appointments. We joined the line to enter T5 and were turned around saying that BCN flights (our final destination) was going out of T3. We tried showing our BA F boarding passes but it was a no go for even entering the terminal.

What is your final destination? What is your originating There is plenty to do at LHR but if you can get LH F then I would no doubt choose LH.

You flew into LHR on BA F, and were not allowed to access the Concorde Room because of your connecting flight?

That's upsetting to hear!

We'll be flying from the USA on BA F, and connecting to Oslo (but that is business class, as there is no F class on those flights).

Likewise on the return, we'll be flying BA from Oslo, connecting at LHR for our BA F flight back to the USA.

As for LH, we won't know until the last week or two, and we'll see what is available.

There is only one Concorde Room at LHR, and that is in the airside departures area of Terminal 5. You can only get access to the airside departures area of T5 to use the Concorde Room if you have a boarding pass for a flight departing from T5 that day.

The same general rule applies across LHR: normally, to access the airside departures area of any terminal, you need a boarding pass for a flight departing from that terminal that day.

That is why I said that your ability to access the Concorde Room depends on your exact itinerary, and nolatravelgirl has now given you first-hand confirmation of that.

OSL departs from T5, so in this direction you will definitely have access to the Concorde Room, regardless of whether your inbound flight to LHR arrives at T3 or T5.

Still not enough information here:-

If your flight from LHR to the US departs from T5, you will have access to the Concorde Room.

If your flight from LHR to the US departs from T3, you will not have access to the Concorde Room (but you will actually have a choice between some pretty decent lounges at T3, so there is no need to be despondent).
