martyap Posted January 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2018 You have helped me a great deal.....one more question. I have narrowed this down to flying one day earlier than planned since the flight is $250 less per person. Have a choice......DL or AF......same times.....both non stop......exactly the csame price.......flip a coin. Thanks

Thanks Sounds like you may be looking at a codeshare flight.....same exact flight (just one actual flight), just showing up in a search as two different flight numbers due to the code share arrangement. CruiserBruce Posted January 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2018 AF will not fly non-stop BCN to the US. AF will go through Paris. Definitely a codeshare, I assume with Delta.

Sorry......not familiar with this but I guess you are right. DL/AF/KLM........all different flight numbers.....all same times/pricing/etc Guess I should just go to the Delta site to book it........correct? alcpa1 Posted January 4, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2018 Yes, book directly with Delta then monitor your flights from time to time as schedules and equipment on any airline could change. Either might knock out your seat. Have a great trip.
Globaliser Posted January 4, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2018 DL/AF/KLM........all different flight numbers.....all same times/pricing/etcGuess I should just go to the Delta site to book it........correct? Personally, my next step would be to assess the effect on frequent flyer earning of booking the different options. That could vary depending on the schemes that I could be earning in, and the flight number and booking class of the flights on offer. However, that's quite a specialist consideration, and you may not be sufficiently interested in this for it to make a difference. After that, my preference would be to book with the operating airline if possible. Despite the great improvements that airlines have made in the transparency and efficiency of codeshare arrangements, there are still more things to go wrong if you book with an airline other than the one which is operating the flight. If we knew what you have been looking at, it would be easier to advise.

We wanted a non stop flight and although AA is the best price the return to NY is at 10am. The next best option was the Delta flight which was $300 more per person if we fly to BCN on 10/12. If we are able to fly to BCN the day earlier 10/11/18 the Delta cost drops considerably. I'm just working out the logistics of doing that. We do not have miles or care about accruing miles. If we can fly on 10/11, I can book the Delta flight directly on the Delta website

I'm just working out the logistics of doing that.If you're prepared to fly to BCN one day earlier, are you prepared to fly back from BCN one day later? If you do that, you can get the same lower price (just under $500) for the AA non-stop JFK-BCN on 12 October and the AA non-stop BCN-JFK at 1000 on 24 October, although it looks like you'd have to book the outbound on the AY (Finnair) code to get that price. However, if you decide to buy the DL flight, then as both JFK-BCN and BCN-JFK are operated by DL, and the pricing is not affected, I would be strongly inclined to buy it from DL using DL flight numbers. Thank you for all your help. I think we will go with the DL flight 10/11 and 10/23 and just spend one extra day in Barcelona. I will book on DL direct
