Flooding on Seaside?

There's a couple of videos running on the MSC Seaside Instagram page, my story, that show some quite serious looking flooding, water pouring down stairs, pouring out of ceilings and walls. Can anyone shed any light on this? Could it be weather related, a torrential rain storm perhaps? I assume it's recent, but it might not be.

We were on the ship at the time. It happened on the final day of our cruise about an hour or so before we were scheduled to leave from Nassau, Captain announced it was a pipe that burst and flooded some areas of decks 5-6 and 7 I believe by the dining rooms and theater. It also had some impact to the areas around the casino and the Seaside lounge. There was some water on stairs and in the elevators. After a few hours the vast majority of it was cleaned up and you would have never know there was a problem. The crew and officers handled the situation extremely well.

Thanks for the update, just one of those things then. Good to hear it was delt with effectively and expeditiously.

T.W.O ... Do you seriously think it only happens to ships built at Fincantieri? There is likely not a ship sailing that has not had some sort of issue with water leaks.

It isn't only Fincantieri but after the "smell" issue, minor issues such as broken doors upon delivery, and other issues that I witnessed onboard, the build quality isn't up to Meyer Werft levels. I don't believe that Fincantieri is up to STX standards, either.

New ships often have issues but some things are build quality and others are design/engineering flaws. Project Mille is Fincantieri's so I would put both as Fincantieri's responsibility.

Wow on a new ship.

Being in the Navy for 18 years, being a new ship has nothing to do with faulty pipes or construction. You buy a new car and have to bring it to a dealer all the time for something or another that was assembled improperly or poorly. Even BMWs and Mercedes have to be taken in for shotty work at the factory. The same happens with ships. It may have tested good at the initial QA process but the pipe or clamp work may have been weak and undetectable at the initial inspection.

So you are trying to tell people that what you mention has never happened on other ships? Transatlantic on an NCL ship where areas were not finished, not built by Fincantieri just to name one, I am sure people know of others.

I never claimed that it was ONLY Fincantieri. New ships (no matter who builds) have problems. I have found that this particular ship built by Fincantieri has more problems than it should.

I understand that it is the 1st in a new class (based on an old design, however) and I understand that this was the largest ship that Fincantieri has ever built so some problems are to be expected.

STX France and STX Finland aren't exactly equal, IMO, as far as quality. No builder is perfect just as no ship is perfect.

Other than the issue with the A/C plant most other things have been minor, issues with glass breakage was always likely to happen At some point, we were on Ruby Princess which was into its third cruise from new and had a glass door missing, Oasis of the Seas a similar thing and the same on a few other ships which were not so new.

Minor issues such as wardrobe door coming off the runner which we had and was easy to put back if you know how.

You have to remember that items like pipework leaks only show up when being used, same with Electrical items.

If there were major issues on a weekly basis then that would be a cause for concern.

With regards to the recent leak, what passengers on the ship at the time said regarding the clean up was echoed by our friend who is Deputy Head of House Keeping.
