That's just an odd minimum. I wonder if they think it increases the number of $10 bets just because most players would be annoyed at having to use $1 chips.

Why be annoyed? Many bets are $1 bets and payoffs are ?/1 as well as some number bets min. being odd odd amounts using $1 chips.

Sorry, thought I was on Royal Caribbean board! This answer below is about Royal Caribbean and Carnival, not NCL. Though 6:5 blackjack payout on low limit tables is pretty standard on cruise ship casinos I've been to, along with $6 minimum, which means that players betting the minimum get the worst payout possible on blackjacks, making the casino even more money.

On Navigator of the Seas now. I was on Carnival Splendor last week. The blackjack tables work pretty much the same.

The blackjack tables on Navigator are $6 minimum. Blackjack pays 6:5. As someone else mentioned, this is making it so that if you bet the $6 minimum and hit blackjack, you only get $7 for the blackjack, you're getting basically 7:6 payout which really sucks and means the casino makes (even more) money.

It might be that the $25 minimum table will pay you 3:2 on a blackjack, I'm not sure because that's too rich for my blood. Either Carnival Splendor or the RC Navigator (or both) paid 3:2 on blackjack at the $25 minimum table, just not at the low $6 minimum table.

On Carnival you could take even money on the blackjack if you got it when the dealer had an Ace showing, which I always did because you were getting 6:6 for the blackjack and if you didn't take even money you risked everything for the extra dollar getting 7:6. On Navigator you can't take even money on blackjack at the $6 minimum table.

Though Navigator had $3 minimums from noon to 4pm on the first sea day. We've not had the second sea day yet to see if they'll do it again. They only advertised it on one table but the second table they had open honored the $3 minimum as well. Of course, that means blackjack would only pay out $3 (even money) on the minimum bet.

The low minimum table on the Escape (I think it was $5, but it could have been $6) pays only 6/5 on a blackjack. I did not realize this until I hit one and questioned my payout. They pointed out that rule and I immediately collected my chips and left the table. That one change amounts to a huge raise in the house's advantage. If you can't afford anything but a table with that rule, quit blackjack and go play video poker.

What is the minimum bet at the black jack tables on the escape?

$6 minimums are the "new normal" for blackjack tables along with a 6:5 payout for blackjack and no option to take even money on blackjack should the dealer show an ace.

This compares to 3:2 payout for blackjack with the option to take even money on blackjack when the dealer shows an ace. This is now reserved for tables with either a $10 or higher minimum. Although I've heard some casinos are pushing this to tables with a $15 minimum or more.

I doubt the accuracy of the comment that at a $6 table it's acceptable to place $1 on the side bet and only $5 in the box for a total of $6. The stated minimum and maximums for a table refer to the the blackjack box. Side bets for "Lucky Ladies," "Royal Pairs," etc. have their own stated min/max bets, usually $1/$10.

On two cruises with Escape this year, they have been good about keeping $6 (guessing on that), $10, $15, $25 and $50 minimum tables open for play.

Accuracy is 100% based on my personal experience on the Breakaway in March & November of 2016.... the table minimum was $6 and you could put $6 on bet or $5 on bet and $1 on side bet for a total of $6.....you do have a lot of facts for someone hearing about, doubting about and guessing about ... but what do I know, I was the one there

Every cruise I've been on with $6 tables, you could bet $6 straight or bet $5 and then $1 on the side which is usually the "lucky ladies" to count as the $6 bet.

Sounds like "anything goes" at the Kiddie Tables.

You're right, I don't have experience playing at a $6 table, and I did qualify my original post with respect to a $6 table. From experience, however, I can tell you that what you stated you did at the $6 will not work at the $25 and $50 minimum tables where I have played.

Actually, you challenging my original post with "I doubt the accuracy" and basing it on your experience at tables not even part of the topic is what I expect from "newbies" and not from real players at the higher limit tables.

Okay, so rather than getting into a p!ssing contest with you, I've sent the following off to NCL for a response:

Hello-

I have a Blackjack gaming and wager question that I am seeking a definitive answer from someone of authority as the answer pertains to policy on board NCL ships.

Someone has posted publicly the following:

"...
based on my personal experience on the Breakaway in March & November of 2016.... the table minimum was $6 and you could put $6 on bet or $5 on bet and $1 on side bet for a total of $6
..."

I challenged this because each blackjack table where I have sat states two sets of limits: Minimum & Maximum for the Blackjack hand as well as a Minimum & Maximum for the side bet hand (currently Lucky Ladies).

  • Is this a misunderstanding?

  • Is NCL making an exception to their own posted limits by allowing a below minimum bet of $5 for a blackjack hand?

  • Is Breakaway bending the rules against NCL gaming policy?

With all due respect to both the individual who reads this and myself, based upon my play rating, I am asking that I receive a response back from an individual at a managerial level that is able and authorized to respond in writing on behalf of NCL, stating their full name and title with NCL.

That's a c/p and I've only omitted my personal information here. When I get a response, I will post it.
