The National Park Service opened yet another beach over the weekend. Trunk Bay has been cleared and cleaned, and is ready to take guests.

Trunk sustained a considerable amount of damage during Hurricane Irma. Since then, crews from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Grand Teton National Park, Big Bend National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gettysburg National Military Park, Yellowstone National Park and of course the Virgin Islands National Park have been working diligently to clean up the brush and get the area ready for visitors.

Thanks for the update. As with any of the beaches in the Leeward Islands that were devastated by the hurricanes beware of debris underfoot on the beach and especially in the water. The crews are doing an outstanding job of restoring power and facilities and with the massive clean-up. Just be safe and ensure the kids (and adults) have water shoes or other protection when wading and enjoy your day!

Has anyone been to downtown Charlotte Amalie this week?

We're arriving on Silhouette next Thursday Nov. 23 and are wondering whether Cuzzins is open or not.

Well, since you are there today, you probably found out that Cuzzin's is not open yet. Also, since it's Thanksgiving, they probably would have been closed anyway, as they are very family oriented. Lots of other places open today, though. Hope you have a great time.

Answering my own question - they are all boarded up and still closed.

No replies from their website comment form and their phone number does not connect. Sad.

We were there on Thanksgiving too. The Celebrity Silhouette docked in Crown Bay, which is a very small port with no restaurants and a few shops open. We took a taxi on a harrowing ride up to Mountaintop. Half of the store is roped off with damaged merchandise from the hurricanes. No food available. We made some purchases to support their economy and returned to the ship as fast as we could. The island looked the same way our town did the day after Irma, only months later in their case.

Paradise Point and the skyride remain closed, as well as all of the hotels on the island not housing relief workers.

I pray for everyone on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix.

Found out yesterday that RCI has rerouted our ship to St Thomas on Christmas Day. We never had St Thomas as a port. Had been switched from St Croix to St Kitts. This report is what I've feared. I'll keep trying to find something to do.

Per VInow Recovery page, the following St.

Thomas beaches have been cleared Dec.1 by Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR), Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program, which evaluates weekly water quality at popular swimming beaches for swimming & fishing: Lindquist, Magen's Bay, Vessup Bay, Bluebeards, Bolongo Bay, Sapphire, Lindbergh Bay, Coki Point, Brewer's Bay. (Beaches that were tested & are Not safe are Water Bay & Secret Harbor. Beaches that could not be tested include Morningstar, Limetree, Frenchman's Bay & Hull Bay.)

For Alice and others, I would strongly suggest reading the beach updates yourself on the VInow dot com recovery blog, as well as the resorts update section. Water quality test reports may be ok, but many condo and resort properties are closed and beach access may not be advisable. You’ll also start seeing threads from other cruisers now as ships are returning which are more helpful. As noted also be aware of the very real potential for storm debris in the water as the sand shifts with the currents. Water shoes or other soled footwear is highly advisable anywhere.

Blue_Water,

Thank you for the advice about water shoes. Will keep an eye on the reports, hoping to go to Honeymoon beach on Water Island.

Debr

FYI If it is important to you - the government does NOT test the water quality at Honeymoon Beach on Water Island.
