Which Princess Ship to Alaska for Cruisetour

We would like to do an Alaska cruisetour with Princess in 2019 and have a few questions that I am sure many of you could give answers and opinions on:

1. We know that Princess has multiple ships that offer this, if you were going to do this which ship would you pick and why?

2. Do you prefer north or southbound? We live in Texas so we figured southbound so that would put land portion first.

3. We know that the weather is not predictable but if we wanted to have warmer, less rainy days which month would be best? Originally I thought probably July.

4. When does Princess release the Alaska 2019 dates?

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.

1) Coral, then Star, then maybe Emerald or Ruby.

2) we prefer southbound, getting the longest flights over at rhe beginning and doing the land portion first. A little more relaxing that way, at least for us.

3) we've been to Alaska in June, July, August and Sept. We've had phenomenal weather each time, wirh our driest and warmest being late July and August..

4) the remainder of 2019 season cruises will be released December 14 (13 for Elites).

Have a great time..

Coral was the ship I was thinking, is there are reason you prefer that one?

We Like the size, and all the different outdoor view spaces make it perfect for Alaska. Different decks and locations for different viewpoints outdoors makes for different perspectives and less crowding. Island is a no go for us after her renos two years ago. They claimed all the aft outdoor viewing and added cabins, removed one of the main lounges for cabins, shrunk the casino for cabins, etc. And did not increase any other public venues.. It's off our sail list unless it's the only ship doing a specific itinerary.

Star is a favorite with Skywalkers all the way aft and high up, which makes for an excellent indoor quiet viewing area. Great public spaces, etc all make for a comfortable ship for the experience..

So, Coral then Star would be our top two choices.

Just to show that it is probably pointless trying to pick the time with the best weather...

We’ve been 4 times, twice in May, once in June and once very end of July/beginning of August. Good both times in May, outstanding in June but not good July/August.

As for ships, not sure yet about 2019 schedule but Emerald and Ruby have been cruising from Seattle which means round trip only, no land portion. Coral would be our choice as well.

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate all of your fantastic insight.

I know the weather is unpredictable, heck I live in Texas and we can have 4 seasons in 1 day.

The 4 Seasons in Texas:

Hot and Humid

Hotter and more Humid

Blazing Hot and so Humid you might as well be in a pool

So Damn Hot and Humid it'll make ya think you died and went to Hades! (aka Georgia in August)

1. We know that Princess has multiple ships that offer this, if you were going to do this which ship would you pick and why? In 2019 the Royal Princess will most likely be doing Alaska. If it is one you can take southbound, then I would pick it. After it, the Coral is my favorite, then the Star.

2. Do you prefer north or southbound? We live in Texas so we figured southbound so that would put land portion first. Southbound as it lets you rest up after a more tiring land tour. Highly recommend taking the longest connoisseur escorted land tour. It is well worth the extra cost.

3. We know that the weather is not predictable but if we wanted to have warmer, less rainy days which month would be best? Originally I thought probably July. Late July or early August

4. When does Princess release the Alaska 2019 dates? December 14th.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.

I agree with everyone. I have been on the island to Alaska pre refurbishment and it was fine and we had great weather in Alaska. When I was on it post refurbishment it was like ***? Why would anyone consciously lower the customer experience and not do anything to give the customer anything?

There is great crew and service on the Island but fixing stupid will be a challenge.

We love NB on the Coral. Her aft viewing areas on decks 10 and 11 are her best feature. They are generally uncrowded as the average cruiser does not even realize they are there and on a NB cruise, you are out of the wind and in the sun there(there is some cover there if liquid sunshine). Usually an open lounger or two to soak in the wake view. We start out a NB cruise visiting Seattle or Vancouver for a couple of days. Then on the NB cruise the scenery just gets better every day! Once reaching Whittier, you can venture on land to either Seward or Denali for a couple of days(or more) and then fly home from Fairbanks or Anchorage on an overnight flight. Sleep on the plane on the way home and rest back at home. Just our preferences.

The Golden is a great ship.

Thanks for the response. Was beginning to worry about what we had booked. Fit our schedule and has long time in all ports and in Glacier Bay. Looked like a good cruise but was not familiar with the ship.
