So we leave in a week...this is a list of items I plan to pack, in addition to clothes and personal effects.

Am I missing/omitting anything important?

med-kit (aspirin, bandaids, neosporin)

Epi-pen

night lite

thermos mug

flashlight

Command hooks

something for papers/receipts

power strip without surge protection

Charmin

Spare card with magnetic strip---someone suggested this, can't recall why though!

walkie talkies, military grade with a range of several miles

hangers

one bottle of wine

ear plugs

pillow

Are you going on vacation or moving in? lol Just kidding.

Leave your toilet paper at home and just use the stuff provided on board. Some TP's can clog up the ships unique type plumbing systems and that won't end well for you or your neighbors.

Not sure if you are joking with the Walkie Talkies but they are not necessary.

Hangers are not necessary either. Ask your Room Steward for more if you need them.

Spare card for the light system---not ALLOWED to have things plugged in the electrical system if you are not in your room. Room stewards are REQUIRED to unplug anything they find. Your room key will keep your power on while you are in your room.

When i was on the breakaway a few weeks ago, my room steward unplugged my camera charger and left my travel clock plugged in. i thought that was odd. I never left a spare card for the light system, so i dont know what happens with that.

OK so why do you need to bring some of these

medi-kit-agreed

epi pen-OK medical essential

night lite-light on in cabin phone doubles as this

thermos flask/flashlight-why?

command hooks-what are these?

something for papers/receipts-a simple plastic folder

Charmin-as already suggested thick toilet paper can block up toilet flush system which is why ship provide tissue thin version

spare card-to keep things charging in cabin when you don't have cabin key in slot-however Ncl have recently clamped down on this probably because of near miss overheating so cabin stewards have instructions to unplug any devices charging when people are not in residence

walkie talkies-very unpopular with fellow cruisers-leave at home

hangers-no need -plenty provided

one bottle of wine-you can bring on board as many as you like but every one is subject to a $15 "corkage" fee

ear plugs-my husband always brings along and even at home lol-cant imagine why!

pillow-imagine that due to medical reasons

Thanks everyone...

So, no Charmin. Damn. I always bring it with me or buy it locally. I hate hotel sand paper. That stuff shouldn't even be used in Guantanamo.

I am going to guess this includes the flushable wipes?

I figured it might be easier to bring hangers than to ask for the ones they have which if they are like hotels, are a PITA to remove from the bar. I don't recall any hotel hangers that were like residential ones, 3/4 looped around bar and easy to remove. Are cruise hangers like this?

Yes! that was the reason someone suggested the spare card, to leave power on. I never gave it any thought, if I'd care if the power went off after vacating the cabin. Moot issue if it violates policy.

Post-it notes, highlighters, ginger candy, all added to list!

The epi-pen, med-kit and pillow are medicinal. The first two are probably never going to be used.

A thermos mug for hot/cold drinks to just have with me when leaving areas of the ship where drinks are served.

Command Hooks is a brand of the self adhesive, easy to remove wall hooks for hanging things.

Charmin---well, that was already shot down :( as was the spare card for keeping the power on.

The walkie talkie is so when the kids are not nearby, they can reliably get in touch with us. I don't want to have to rely

on the shipboard system of allowing texts.

The hangers is just to have normal ones with us, not the medievil torture hangers the hospitality industry loves so much

some ships safes use a card with magnetic strip...I have not been on this ship so don't know....I have a old grocery store rewards card that I don't use any more so just keep it with my travel stuff....if I need it I have it. You don't want to use your room key and I prefer to lock my credit cards in the safe not carry one around to unlock safe.

Flushable wipes are a definite no-no for shipboard plumbing.

So the safe, it would only be keyed to your old rewards card? What is the benefit of this over using your room key?

I do plan to use the safe for our passports, cash, my watch if at the spa (I have spa credit).

Does using the room key somehow mean the stewards key will open it too but using an outside card like your old rewards card block their access? Trying to see the benefit of using a different card for it.

the cabin safe relies on you entering numerical code so not reliant on cabin key card

if you in danger of being left behind because of late arrival at pier cabin stewards have authority to open your safe to hand over passports to port authority so you can travel onwards

there are a lot of threads describing how unpopular walkie talkies are due to people talking at very loud volume when walking around ship

low tech methods like leaving notes in cabin work surprisingly well especially when you can guess where your loved ones are likely to be by doing a methodical search

can always find my other half by a search of the bars!

Just curious, which NCL ships don't have a numerical keypad?

Thanks.

Every safe we have had on Breakaway has had a numerical keypad that you program with your own 4 digit password.

We like to bring battery operated tea lights and a travel sized can of Fabreze room spray.

Sticky notes come in handy for leaving the steward or my family a message.

Have a great cruise [emoji41][emoji483]

Please add this to your list:

Visine (very expensive on board)

Velcro or safety pins (for a quick fix on a hem etc.)

Pre-threaded needle (fixing falling off buttons)

Small pair of scissors.

Band aid (for small cuts/bruises)

Rubber place mat for your night stand (prevents cups/glasses from sliding)

Ship Ahoy !

If you do plan to eat in the Garden Cafe a/k/a buffet during the week, pay attention to how tables and surfaces are cleaned with sanitizing spray bottle or not. Optionally, bring & use your own wipes - I am not a fan of the "dry" wipe, sweep & clean method (and, much prefer a simple diluted bleach mix) and hand sanitizer (without getting into another debate about usefulness of "Washy Washy")

Lately, it seemed that the BA has been subjected to repeated plumbing problems from foreign objects jamming the lines - a service charge of $250 can be imposed for those that disregard and flush other items, including TP not provided by housekeeping. Attached reminder/notice was distributed 3 times during our week onboard.

Don't know about the specs of your UHF walkie talkies, if you intend to seriously use it - really not that practical beyond line of sight, unless you are running a repeater ... simplex/duplex & SSB mode for reasonable bow to stern coverage. Otherwise, just use free stateroom voice mail system and good old sticky note-it. Except on the bridge, officers & crew members communicate by other means instead of portable radios, for good reasons.

The card for room power doesn't need to have a strip. I stuck my insurance card in ours (and forgot it, of course😂).

Travel mug YES!! We also brought some water bottles. You can order pitchers of water from room service, fill them up, and keep in your room fridge. Hangers not really necessary. Over the door hooks worked for us- sturdier for hanging multiple towels, swimsuits sweatshirts.

The other best thing I brought was a collapsible fabric hamper. I'm a bit ocd, but hate having clothes laying around or stuffed in garbage bags under a bed.

Being an OCD clean person, perhaps I shouldn't pay attention! I avoid the wipes/hand sanitizers in general BUT on a ship of 4k people, this sounds like ...sound advice.

My walkies are FM based, lime what police departments use. The range is many many many miles and not reliant on line of sight. We may never use them but having them will make us feel better.

Recently read a story where someones teenage daughter was given a date-rape drug and not found for many hours.

Before she became loopy, if she had a walkie, she might have been able to reach her parents.

Duly noted about the TP. I've already removed it from the list. Maybe I should add in some Triple Paste? /joking

Visine (very expensive on board) ADDED

safety pins (for a quick fix on a hem etc.) ADDED

Pre-threaded needle (fixing falling off buttons) ADDED

Small pair of scissors. Would this even be allowed???

Band aid (for small cuts/bruises) In Med-kit already

Rubber place mat for your night stand (prevents cups/glasses from sliding) This one caught me off guard! The ship moves that much?

From infection control & food safety protection standpoints, being dully certified in my other lives ... I can't help but noticed "violations" if conducting a mock NYC Dept of Health and/or Joint Commission's unannounced inspections. Just heads-up to base your own observations ... thankfully, with a shifting passenger demographic mix, no reported Noro-virus outbreak lately, knock on woods.

Most of the contents added/described would be in a compact, well packed urban survival/go kit ... I have no problems with those, perfectly fine to bring along. OTC meds, even if available, are ultra expensive in the gift shops (no plans to "obtain" those from ship's medical infirmary/center)

Small scissor and/or knife with short blade should not be a problem, travel with a small Coleman multi-tool all the time thru TSA checkpoint, compliant for air travel ... only time I had to leave home without it while on recent NYC jury duty @ criminal court. We had a midship/deck location and ship hardly tilted, use those cotton wash cloth/towel in a pinch (w/o bringing rubber anti-slip mat,) our wine bottles didn't go flying at all ... hangers inside the closet were making noises on embarkation night as we're racing against an oncoming Nor-Easter, otherwise - uneventful.

If allegic to smoke from the casino & nearby, N95 masks are optional ... "surgical" masks are useless, ;p and, minimize passing thru that area.

Don't need a hole puncher, those are available on board at guest services and the gift shops.

To use or to buy?

I don't wish to come home with a second hole punch that gets the same use as my existing one!

Perhaps I just bring lanyards already punched and with a neck cord?
