Wifi speed/reliability -Freedom of Seas

Recommended Posts

Can any one comment on the reliability/speed of the internet on these ships or specifically freedom of the seas? I would like to work while on the ship but i need a fairly solid connection. I have been on a ship before, dont remember if it was NCL, 6 years ago and the wifi in the room was barely good enough for web browsing.

thanks!

Freedom is equipped with the faster O3b service, so it's as good as it gets via satellite.

Does your work intranet require you to log onto a VPN when working remotely?

If so, plan on working in the 150 - 200 kbps range with a long latency timeframe.

No VPN requirement?

Plan on a 400 - 500 kbps download speed and about a 65 - 100 kbps upload speed

Plus, I've found the VPN I use currently blocked on our last two cruises (Majesty and Jewel).

Welcome to CC. If you are willing to work when everyone is not (at say 3 AM) you have a very good chance at a stable connection. Any other time, don't count on it to work flawlessly.

Biker, who is working a bit on Indy and has had good luck, so far.

Biker,

If you’re currently on Indy, how about going to http://www.speedtest.net and give us a report of your findings.
