On loud "music"

It is a popular comment made by many cruisers that they find the constant music being played in such locations and the elevators, restaurants, poolside etc to be obtrusive.

In particular, according to research, the predominent liners who favor such loud music at all times are Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

What are your thoughts on the constant (usually loud) music played during your relaxing vacation?

All feedback is welcome to this thread.

Thank you for help regarding this piece of research..

J,

You know, it's not something I've ever thought about until I read your post. So apparently it doesn't bother me. If I want peace and quiet, there are places on the ship to find it, and there's always the cabin.

I like the music out by the pool area; it adds to the ambiance of being tropical.

I disagree with your assessment of it being popular. I have not read one review in the last 18 months where someone complained about loud music, so I think you are researching a topic that is significantly in the minority.

The live bands and even on the Liberty the outdoor theater is played loud, but it is awesome! There are many areas of the ships and the aft pools where you hear nothing...

If someone is btching about the muzak in the elevators then they truly have a problem...

I would love for you to post a link from a review where someone has complained about the music being too loud - I bet I can guess the demographic...

Like Shay-- I never really paid attention to the music so it must no tbe too intrusive.

Even when standing outside the disco on the spirit class ship we heard no music coming from inside-- and outside there was the jazz before dinner and that was just right-- we sat there and listened for a bit while the line for dinner went away.

Never noticed "loud" music where it shouldn't be loud... Is there really music in the elevators???? Wow, see how much I pay attention. I've also NEVER read a complaint about it on these boards until just now... so obviously, it's not that big of a deal to most.

Music poolside??? Why the nerve!!!! :p LMAO!!!! I would hope it would be loud enough to hear, but many times it's not and I wish it was LOUDER :D

I'm bothered by loud music when you can't find a indoor lounge in which to have a quiet drink and some conversation. I'm hearing impaired, so background noise is always a problem, but I'd say that there are quite a few places onboard where the decibel level exceeds the OSHA 8 hour maximum (not that OSHA rules apply on a foreign-flagged cruiseship.)

Solved that problem last cruise with a balcony. Peace, quiet, and no fighting for a chair!

 Hmmm. I've been on these boards for four years, and this is the FIRST time I've seen a comment like that.

Loud anything bothers me. I never even have the car radio on. So - I think if music on a cruise were a problem, I most definitely would have noticed it. Never heard music in an elevator on a cruise ship, either. I go to the aft pools, and if I hear any music, it's very faint and unobtrusive.

I'm curious Jack, which Carnival and RCL cruises have you been on? Were they short cruises?? What sort of music was playing in the elevators?? And the dining rooms? I've heard the music during the show, but not DURING dinner. I'm just curious what you are basing this on, since you posted it on all the mass market boards it seems.

I don't recall ever being annoyed by the music so it must not be much of a problem for me personally. The only thing I can recall being annoyed about (briefly - I got over it) was the constant and loud announcements over the loudspeakers by "John Doe, your cruise director".... Could hear it in my cabin from the hallway....I forget the ship - think it was Miracle, but don't hold me to it. It was only on that cruise, however.

I soooooooo agree with you about the balcony. That is my little corner of the world, too! Love to hang out there w/coffee in the morning/a good book in the afternoon/watching the stars and the sea at night... Sigh.:)

We have never noticed any loud music while cruising, maybe we are just to excited to be on a ship again to even notice. The only music I/we can really remember is on the Lido Deck, mainly, a live band, which added to our cruising experience.

I am willing to provide a db meter, if someone, or an organization, wishes to sponsor us to do research on music levels on a variety of cruise ships. I/we will keep records on levels, type music, location on the ship. time/dates, and after extensive research (probably at least 3 to 5 years of cruising/research), we will report back here with our results.

What a job!!!

From the looks of it, no one is bothered by the music on Carnival or any of the other 3 Cruise Boards where you posed this same question. I wonder where you've heard these comments and what type of "research" was actually conducted for you to come to the conclusion that the music is obtrusive? Please share your "piece of research" details with us so that we can determine if it's scientifically valid. :p

The only music I minded was on the Lido deck in the pool area. Not so much minded the volume or anything, but the same CD or whatever (mediocre hits of the 70's, 80's and 90's) played end on end, day after day. But, if that's the worst thing I can complain about, I'm doing pretty well just the same.

Never had a problem with loud music where it's not supposed to be.

On any of our 4 cruises (2 CCL 2 RCL).

Obviously on the pool deck when they have the outdoor buffet or the calypso music and games it is going to be loud, that is a given.

And if you are in the surrounding area you will hear some of it.

At night in the piano bar and other bars it will be loud as in the casino.

There are plenty of places for some quiet though, the library, your cabin, the secret doorway! the internet cafe would be quiet I would think, the card room, the chapel just to name a few.

Just my 2 cents plain.

Strange topic, loud music, heck I think of cruises as a vacation/party time. My idea of a party will include some loud music in the appropriate places.

John & Shari

I must be the only one (who hates it) so I guess that is why they have it. It sometimes bothers me in the buffet area. But than I just go somewhere else. Some ships seem louder than others. I love crusing so I have to make adjustments. I am sure if they did everything my way alot of other people would not like it. I have been on princess, holland america, celebrity and disney. I find carnival the loudest but they have the best price. So I love Carnival as they make it affordable. I get to go more often.

I have never thought the music was to loud on any of the ships I've been on, especially like the lido deck where it is supposed to be loud, or with the shows, etc.

Still waiting to hear more about the "research." And I have never seen anything on these boards that had suggested that it is the popular belief.
