Carnival Elation....The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Doing a 5 day on the Elation out of Jacksonville in a few weeks....What should I know about the ship? Compared to others. What type of crowd is generally on this cruise?

I am used to doing a 7-8 day cruise...not sure what to expect with a 5 day cruise. Dining menus? Fun Times?

Jaxport Elation 5 day is more like your general 7 day cruise with more kids this time of year .

A few party people on board not as much as spring break though.

Food selections are about the same as the 7 day. She's ok for a quick getaway .

Casinos tighter than a Granny trying to squeeze through a Walmart special on Senior day..

5 day cruises are my favorite. I’ll also be on Elation in a few weeks, I chose this ship and itinerary because of it being a 5 day with only 2 ports. I think that as far as what the crowd will be like will depend on whether school is back in session when you cruise. I’ve found 5 days to be similar to 7 days as far as dining, activities and the crowd.

If you want the ugly as well, I'll just say I stopped sailing this class ship about 10 or 12 years ago because I thought they were old back then.

The Elation went through dry dock last year and got many updates. My niece sailed it last Christmas time, and loved it. Also, look up a review by jamman54. He always does excellent reviews, and has one for the Elation. Have a wonderful cruise!

We sailed Elation last November. One of the best cruises we've been on with Carnival. The staff were friendly and the cruise director was fantastic.

We love the fantasy class, great size and we never felt the ship was crowded. I'll dig up the funtimes when I get home later.

We are cruising in a few weeks too. Second time on the Elation, the first before her dry dock, and during Hurricane Matthew. I’m excited to see the upgrades. I love Fantasy class. We are in one of the new cabins on the Grand deck.

And many think that sailing on a massive 5000 pax cruise ship is not what cruising is all about.... but to each his/her own.... Can't wait to get back to my 2 story cabin on a cruise ship I will not name!:cool:

Bad and ugly and old.

I love 5 day cruises. Not to long, not to short. I love the Fantasy class ships. Elation was our first cruise out of NOLA.

Sailed her before her upgrade on a 4 day. The family and I had a grand time. Will be on her again for her aug 5th cruise. I’ve sailed 4 different lines, on ships all larger than the elation. The fantasy class is one of my favorite class of ship. It speaks volumes they are still sailing. The loud vocal critics are clearly the minority.

I’ve sailed her several times and can’t complain. No, it doesn’t have specialty dining and some of the other bells and whistles some of the larger ships have but it’s very nice and as always, it’s what you make it. Main dining room has always been more than adequate. Can’t forget to mention that the crew is fantastic as well. Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for asking!!! I keep trying to figure out if this boat will be a lot rockier than others.

I enjoyed elation very much in February of this year. So much so that I'm booked again in the very same cabin for February of next year. In particular I appreciated the cabin upgrades and to me the ship looked very clean and new. CAVEAT: I'm not fussy.

How rocky the ride is depends a lot on the weather/conditions. If you're nervous, book towards the center of the ship and pack your favorite motion sickness med (meclizine pills, scopolamine patch, etc).
