Good news re: Chefs Table wine

My sister and I are signed up for the Chef's Table on the Dream in February. I had read enough reviews that were underwhelmed by the quality of the free wine served that I got concerned. Because this is such a treat, I wanted to make sure that we could enjoy it with quality wine. I just reached out and got an email confirmation that we can have them serve us at the Chef's Table either wine that we bring onto the ship with us or wine that we buy at a discounted rate at the Steakhouse the first night. We just need to pay a corkage fee. Just thought I'd share this since I hadn't seen others talking about this possibility, but saw many others who were unimpressed by the free wine.

That is interesting....I wonder how it would work if you purchased the Cheers program. Could you order a glass of your favorite wine, or even leave, find the nearest bar, order it yourself and return?

Wow, I didn't even think of asking about that and we are buying the Cheers program. I only thought of the bottle of wine we would each be able to bring on board, or buying wine at the Steakhouse 1st night when it's 50% off. I don't know about leaving and returning to snag a drink, though. I think that could be a big issue since then you'd be wandering in and out of the kitchen on your own without an escort (at least on the Dream and other ships where the meal is served right in the kitchen...).

I have done the Chef's Table on Ecstasy and Conquest, both were in a separate dining room. On each of those ships one could get up and get a drink from an outside bar with no problem. I can imagine that it would certainly be an issue from the kitchen though! And I am one that complains about the wine served at Chef's Table so this information is great!

Yay! Glad sharing it was a help! :)

If I recall, the wine are paired by the course...so whatever is paired with fish will be different from say steak.

I would say definitely have them serve you their pairing, and then if you have another glass because it is not to your taste, then so be it. I would never drink a sauvigon blanc, for example, independently, but I do like it with certain fish as it tastes completely different with a correct food pairing.

Hi

I can see why they would have little objection. The wine they serve is included in the price and within reason, unlimited.

You want to bring your own wine and then pay them to open your bottle for you. :) I would think they should be willing to give you a slight rebate.

The couple of times I have done Carnival's Chefs Table in the last year or so, there was one white and one red, not a pairing for each course like I have had with other lines. The servers simply asked if we wanted red or white with each course served.

Some other lines have a wine steward along with the chef who comes out and describes his/her choice for the pairing for each course, but not on Carnival that I have ever seen.

Never bothered me too much though, because I am there for the interesting food.

I was thinking of bringing the menu to a sommalier, to be honest. If they suggest 3 wines for the meal, I could bring 2 on board with us and maybe I could ask them to pick the 3rd based on the wines available to buy by the bottle in the steakhouse. 3 nice bottles of wine for 2 ladies during a 4 hour meal... any wine we didn't drink, I assume we could bring back to our cabin with us.

You folks have expensive palettes . I figure if the Chefs Table cost of $95 + 20% auto gratuity covers wine, I’ll drink what they offer .

I thought their wine options were not too bad.

LOL well, it's a definite splurge. I'm not going to lie. But if I'm going to spend that much on food, I definitely want to enjoy everything that goes into my mouth at the meal. :)
