I just received word from his daughter that Andy Steigman died suddenly earlier this month of a stroke. He was 85, but looked, thought, and acted much younger. Andy was a frequent and popular guest lecturer on Silversea; in fact, he had four lecturing "gigs" lined up on Silversea between next month and May of 2019. He was an accomplished man. Fulbright scholar. Georgetown University professor of history and diplomacy. Author of several books. U.S. ambassador to two different African countries.

But more than that, he was a fun guy. My wife and I met him the first time in the bar of the Silver Spirit on a Panama Canal cruise---a Margarita in his hand and a twinkle in his eye---and wound up having dinner with him, the first of many as it turned out. He may have been the best conversationalist we've ever known.

If you remember Andy, raise a glass to him tonight. He deserves to be celebrated, and remembered.
