RHMS AMERIKANIS - The beginning

Recommended Posts

ahoi,

need help,

- When "Amerikanis" was rebuilt from "Kenya Castle", the front on Jerusalem Deck was open space - surrounded by a windscreen like the front part of fleetmate "Ellinis". The first deckplans showed an open area with a hatch for cargo. Also on early postcards you can see it.

Somebody knew when this forward area get rebuilt and filled with cabins and topped with a tenniscourt?

While I can't be definitive, the information I have seems to suggest that the cabins were added in 1970. My records show that the ship went in for another refit during that time, but does not give details as to what work was actually done. Subsequent to that refit, the most recent pictures of the ship that I have are from 1977 and they do show the cabin windows for the new staterooms, but do not show a sports area above. I believe that area was actually added in the 1990's, but can't be certain in that.
