Shopping in ports

Is one port better for shopping for gifts ?

While there are shopping opportunities in all of the ports, Ketchikan has not only stores such as Diamonds International, but interesting and funky shops along Creek Street. And Ketchikan also has the Tongass Trading Company.

Since I've done it before, in the ports other than Ketchikan I will only buy something very unique and special that I run across. If I need to "stock up" on things for friends or relatives at home, Ketchikan is the place. Tongass Trading is *HUGE* and has about anything you might want. Their prices aren't bad either.

Be careful about what you buy. If want an authentic Alaskan made item, look for the official "Made In Alaska" logo.

Tongass Trading Company has two levels, Tourist stuff on the ground floor and upstairs with outfitting stuff for locals. Ulu knives without the Alaska logo are much cheaper upstairs.

I would look at all the ports.

If you wait you might realize you don't like what you see in a specific port.
