From the Boston Globe travel section this morning, they have this headline: Eight top travel destinations for 2018nice highlights for this Australia attraction near Sydney.

Here are some key details and their reporting: In a country with so many natural wonders, it’s easy to forget about the Blue Mountians and the sprawling Jamison Valley in New South Wales. The blue haze that often sits over the valley inspired the name. About two hours north of Sydney, the area is popular with hikers, rock climbers, and mountain bikers. But you can also enjoy the region without breaking a sweat by taking a ride on the Katoomba Scenic Railway, which is the steepest funicular railway in the world, according to the Guinness World Records. You can get a better look at the valley and its flora and fauna on the Scenic Skyway, a glass-bottom aerial cable car. There are plenty of scenic walks to enjoy the rain forests and the rock formation known as the Three Sisters.

When we visited Australia for the first time, we did not have the opportunity to do these Blue Mountains area. BUT, it seems very nice, attractive, interesting and a good priority to consider for when we are able to go back down under.

We just returned from our Solstice cruise Sydney to Auckland. Blue Mountains were not in our original plans. A roll call member organized a tour and we decided to join. What a great day with fabulous scenery! That funicular ride is pretty extreme for a 60 second ride!

No visit to Sydney would be complete without a visit to the Blue Mountains, it’s a magnificent place for an unforgettable experience. Memories regularly pop into my mind and it’s been quite awhile since I visited! Make time in your schedule for this special place.

I love the mountains! Particularly if you have the opportunity to go to Jenolan Caves, which is about 1.5 hours further after Katoomba. One of my favourite places in the world, just stunning.

One note though.. they are actually WEST of Sydney. head two hours north.. and you'll be quite a distance from the blue mountains :)

We have great memories of our visit to the Blue Mountains when we visited Australia in 2015. We took the train from Sydney to the Blue Mountains area, then the bus. We then rode the cable car for spectacular views of the 3 sisters. We then walked trails down and rode the train out. What a fantastic day we had. Definitely worth the day to go see the Blue Mountains!
