How much money on board?

We are on the Pride with four at sea days. We will be off ship in all three ports. How much can we expect to spend on board during the cruise? Probably four smoothies and 4-6 alcoholic beverages a day - total - among the four of us (2 adults, 2 children). We have on board credit, but I am trying to figure out how much to buy in gift cards!

Any and everything you buy on the ship goes on your account. If you are using a credit card to "link" your account, then you won't need much cash for ON the ship at all....of course, if you're planning on gambling, cash is best for that!

You will want some cash for ashore...smaller purchases and such are faster and easier with cash. For larger purchases, a credit card is best.

Tips to room service (not included in the daily tips) or for porters when boarding...and cab drivers, etc.....

We bring about $1500 for a week...and that includes our gambling money...rarely do we spend it all. Don't buy too many "gift" cards unless you can get your money back from them without fees!

You will have a safe to store cash and valuable onboard.

Are your tips prepaid? Get at least enough gift cards to cover the tips, if not. It really depends what your spending habits are. I don't pay attention to money on vacation. We had cheers for me and bottomless bubbles for the kid. For two of us, not including the tips that got added I think we spent about $200 bucks on a 4 day cruise. Basically on souveniers and a couple of fru fru drinks for the kid. No specialty dining included. So assuming you have prepaid your tips and it is a 7 day cruise, I can't see you coming in at under $500 on your sail and sign. I wouldn't be suprised if you hit $1,000.

Thanks all! So if i get gift cards and buy cruise cash, I could use that to pay for everything on board, right?

On the cruise cash if you don’t spend it all you will lose it; however, what I do is take what is left over to casino and convert it to play on the slot machine and then cash out and get my cash back from casino cage

What ever you are currently thinking,,,, double it and you're good.

With clothes, pack everything you plan to take 2 days before you leave.

The next day, unpack everything, then repack only half the shoes, half the shirts, half the jewelry, half the pants, half the dresses, half the shorts, keep all the underwear,,,, you're good

JMHO but unless you are somehow purchasing gift cards and cruise cash at a discount (e.g. paying $20 for $25 worth of OBC) or you just want to have all the OBC you think you will need bought and paid for, not sure if I see any advantage doing this. You could just set aside cash to replenish at Guest Services/kiosk or your credit card - that way you won't have to worry if you have too much leftover and get the balance the night before debarkation

We had $550 on our S&S last Jan. It was 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids. We got the internet for 4 of us, bought a cake for our son's birthday, got a few froo froo drinks, gave the kids each $20 on their own S&S for the arcade, got candy at Cherry on Top, bought a TON of pics (over $300 worth) and we were still trying to figure out what to do with the leftover money before the end of the cruise. This time around it is just dh and I and we got a $500 gc for our S&S and I am not worried at all that it won't be enough, I won't be buying a ton of pics of just the 2 of us like last time. I actually plan to cash out a good chunk at the end of the cruise.

  • 2 weeks later...

No need to buy cruise cash (which is non refundable) Simple add your carnival gift cards to your onboard at either guest services or one of the kiosks. Hang onto giftcards until after your account is reconciled at the end of the trip. Money left comes back to you in gift card form. Much better than non refundable cruise cash.
