RCCL - Majesty of the Seas - toddler splash zone.

Want to give a heads up to anyone planning to sail the ship . One reason this ship was selected was the splash zone. We were traveling with a potty trained 3 year old, who we knew would like the splash zone. There are two areas, one with a little toddler slide, the other larger area for slightly older/taller children, that had a minimum height requirement.

We took her to the smaller splash zone and she immediately loved the small slide. A few minutes later a life guard came over and asked if she was potty trained, we relied yes. He then tells us that the small zone is only for babies and toddles who are not potty trained. OK - so we go over to the larger area and learn that she is too small to meet the height requirement for the other toddler slide. So she can't use the baby/toddler area and can't use the larger toddler area! So, no place to climb/slide and have fun in the water. She did play a few minutes in the larger toddler area but got a bit bored not being able to use the water slide.

Just a side note, this was mid January, it was mostly cold out, we missed coco Cay, had to wear winter jackets in Nassau and now there is finally a decent afternoon to swim. She was the only child in the younger toddler zone, but she still was not allowed. No sense complaining to the lifeguard as he was only doing his job. We did make a comment on the survey.

Wanted to warn those contemplating this or other ships with a splash zone to get all the rules before selecting a ship. It was not the first ship of choice, but was selected after the RCCL agent mentioned the toddler splash zone. No mention of any limitations to use the areas. I guess if we lied and said she was not potty trained, then she could have stayed in the area. Honestly we waited till she was potty trained to take the cruise so she could use the pool facilities.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. We are also waiting until our twins are potty trained to cruise with them, so I will definitely fully investigate height requirements. Thanks for the warning!

The slide in the “bigger kids “ area was definitely too much of a slide for a toddler. Our 3 1/2 year-old had a good 8 inches to get to the minimum height. She enjoyed the infant toddler area and for a few moments had a wonderful time in that area. Shame she couldn’t stay there.

Because of the weather, she only had about 30 minutes of pool time for the entire four-day trip. Missed coco cay beaches, cloudy cool (cold) weather the entire trip. In fact, the day before the cruise was spent at Epcot. We wore our winter coats most of the day!

I hate to tell you this, but that lifeguard was incorrect. Anyone, including parents, can use the small splash zone, if it is designated for use by babies in swim diapers. The only restriction is that if you or your child use the swim diaper area, you should shower before using any other water feature, as the swim diaper area has its own separate water system so there is no cross-contamination. Typically, there will be a glass partition, or something similar, to prevent water splashing, or direct movement from one area to the other. The Majesty's swim diaper splash area is relatively new to the ship (they have different construction requirements, and was added at the last drydock), and the lifeguards are relatively new positions, so the crew may not be fully versed on the regulations.
