“Smoking Lounge” is now next to pool on the RSSC Navigator!

The RSSC Navigator has eliminated the closed smoking lounge that was on deck 5. They have relocated the smoking area to a table next to the pool. Sadly for those of us that are allergic to smoke or just don’t like smelling cigarette smoke, the cigar and cigarette smoke wafts over the deck lounge chairs and even gets so far as the open pool buffet. We were so disappointed to not be able to use this area or elven eat here. The chair cushions were saturated with the smell. RSSC says they have no plans to move the “area.” Does anyone know if this a problem on Crystal, Siversea, or Seabourn?

Wow I sure enjoyed eating outside. Now I wont even walk outside as I hate walking thru the smoke. Will be terrible for those who suffer from asthma.

To my knowledge, all luxury cruise lines have smoking area(s) and it is not unusual to have one outside. All Regent ships have smoking areas on the pool deck. The Explorer has an enclosed glass area on the pool deck. Also, except for the Navigator, all ships have cigar/smoking rooms.

Whether we like it or not (and I am not a smoker nor do I want to be around smoke), cruise lines still need to accommodate smokers and the Navigator is such a small suites, there are not many choices as to where to locate it.

I would check out the other luxury cruise line websites to learn where their area(s) for smoking are.

Silversea allows smoking on pool deck (we avoid this area).

Silversea's policy:

At Silversea, the comfort, enjoyment, and safety of all guests is paramount. Most areas on board are non-smoking, and, as a safety precaution, smoking is not permitted in guests suites or guest suite verandas or balconies. However, cigarette, cigar, electronic cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in the Connoisseur’s Corner and in specifically designated areas. These areas include designated tables outside of the Panorama Lounge and the Pool Bar, as well as on open Decks 9 and 10 aboard Silver Spirit, Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow; on open Deck 9 aboard Silver Cloud and Silver Wind; in specifically-designated outside areas on Decks 5 and 6 aboard Silver Explorer; in a designated outside area on Deck 4 aboard Silver Galapagos; and in the designated smoking area on Deck 6 on Silver Discoverer.

Copied and am now pasting the smoking policies of Crystal and Seabourn:

Crystal Cruises kindly asks all guests to observe the non-smoking areas on board which have been created for the comfort and enjoyment of everyone. Indoor smoking is permitted only in the Connoisseur Club smoking lounge and the VIP Casino (during play, upon request). Smoking is prohibited in all other indoor areas of the ship including all other public rooms, lounges, corridors and restaurants, as well as all staterooms, suites and verandahs. Please note, if smoke is detected in a stateroom or suite, a cleaning fee* of $250 per incident will be billed to your account.

Seabourn

For the comfort of all guests, most public areas on board, as well as guest suites are smoke-free.

Cigarette smoking is permitted in the following areas:

ON ALL SEABOURN SHIPS:

Smoking of electronic cigarettes is permitted in guest suites. Smoking of water-pipes, glass-pipes or other smoking devices is not permitted on board. Smoking is not permitted on open decks during fuel bunkering operations in port.

Inside smoking of cigarettes is not permitted.

Outside smoking of cigarettes is permitted in designated areas of Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn, Seabourn Quest and Seabourn Encore:

  • On the starboard half of the Sky Bar on Deck 9 including the bar stools on Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest. On the starboard half of the Sky Bar on Deck 10 including the bar stools on Seabourn Encore.
  • On the starboard half of the open terrace aft of The Club on Deck 5.
  • Smoking of cigarettes, pipes and cigars is permitted on the starboard half of the open terrace aft of Seabourn Square on Deck 7. This is the only area on board where pipe and cigar smoking is permitted.

Can not resist commenting that a $250 fine for smoking inside of your suite is nothing to a smoker that is cruising on a luxury cruise line. I prefer the policies whereby you can be put off of the ship for smoking in suites/balconies.

So what are the rules for Regent?

I remember the glass enclosure on the pool deck on the Explorer.

I remember the open corner opposite the pool bar on the Navigator and Mariner.

I believe that you cannot smoke in your suite or balcony.

On some of its ship there are indoor rooms reserved for smokers.

I wish Regent would put up the glass barriers around the smoking table on the pool deck. It might help.

This is very important to me. As some of you know, I use oxygen and cannot be anywhere near a flame. So I am very careful when on the pool

Deck.

Sheila

PS. Years ago we cruised on the Renaissance cruise line. Smoking was not permitted anywhere on the ship. As we docked, the smokers were first in line to get off and light up. It was so funny to watch at every port.

Sheila = here is Regent's smoking policy. Note the last paragraph! The typos are Regent's - not mine (for once)

For the comfort and safety of all of our Guests, smoking is not permitted in any enclosed dining area, certain public venues, elevators, the Theater, and all suites and balconies, and is only permitted in specific designated smoking areas. The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within designated smoking areas only.

Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor pool area and the following public rooms:

Seven Seas Explorer: Connoisseur Club, Pool area (designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Horizon Lounge (outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Horizon Lounge (outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Seven Seas Navigator: Galileo's (outdoor one side designated area), Pool area (designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Cigar Smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club on applicalbe ships and the designated area on the opposite side of the Pool Bar.

Pipe smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club. Pipe smoking in open deck areas is considered an extreme fire hazard and is not permitted.

Failure to comply with the above smoking policy will result in guests being asked to leave the ship at their expense, without refund or credit for the unused portion of their cruise.

We are currently on Voyager and an older gentleman is routinely smoking a cigar in the smoking area of the pool deck. The smell drifts to the pool bar. Obviously no one has told him the rules about limiting cigars to the connoisseur’s club! Fortunately, there are not too many cigarette smokers on this cruise.

Actually, the way that’s worded would lead you to believe that either the CC or open deck areas are okay for cigar smoking. There’s no mention of the pool deck only if no CC is on the ship (Navigator). The way I read it, you can smoke a cigar in either place, and pipe smokers are just plain out of luck on Navigator.

Does anyone know if this a problem on Crystal, Siversea, or Seabourn?

On a 2016 Crystal cruise, about 1/3 of one side of the pool deck was designated for smoking. On one segment, we seemed to have more than the usual number of smokers and they (the smokers, not Crystal) expanded the area to about half that side.

What I don’t understand is when there is such a small minority of people, usually under 10,that are utilizing the smoking facilities and four hundred plus other non smoking passengers ,why are the cruise lines so concerned about the smokers? Why can’t one of the major lines stand up and say “we are smoke-free and proud .we are promoting a healthy ship and you’ll never have to worry about a smoke smell in your room or on your food!”? Why aren’t the cruise lines worried about the people that have asthma or allergies to smoke?

100% agree. I also do not understand why any cruise line needs to cater to smokers.

As for the NAV, for me, the smoking section outside Galileo on the aft deck is worse. It renders the walking deck unusable. At least on the pool deck I have the option to eat outside on the aft area.

There are some people on Cruise Critic that might leave Regent if they went smoke-free. Carnival tried it years ago and it failed miserably (which is too bad). As you likely recall, Seabourn was the last cruise line to implement a reasonable non-smoking policy (i.e. not smoking on balconies or suites). Prior to that, it sounded as if they were inundated with smokers since they were the only luxury cruise line that permitted smoking. On the other hand, if ALL luxury lines went non-smoking, I, for one would be thrilled!

Wish Regent would have the courage to eliminate any open smoking on all their ships. If it is enclosed, it is acceptable. Smoking in the open on the pool deck is very annoying, uncomfortable and unhealthy.

What about the majority of non-smokers rights? This is an issue to be considered.

I will still cruise RSSC, but more consideration should be given to this.

I too would like to see both Regent and Oceania as completely non smoking lines. If only 10 or so passengers are regularly using the smoking areas why inflict their stink ( sorry, but no other word for it!) on the hundreds of other people? Smokers, in my experience, do not realise how offensive the SMELL of what they do is to most people. They need to come to terms with that.

This is the first "smoking" thread that I've seen in a couple of years.

Since there is a likelihood that Regent would lose passengers if they went all non-smoking, perhaps they could start with one ship. Even though this is something that I would love to see, I also would like to see (and have suggested before) one or two cruises a year that were for adults and they have not tried that either. I would bet that a non-smoking cruise would fill up faster than a normal cruise (depending upon the itinerary of course).

As I recall, one of my favorite posters was a little upset when the Navigator's smoking room was removed because the ship just didn't have enough room to keep it after the refurbishment. I believe that he enjoys a cigar (could be a pipe) sometimes. There were also comments that having cigarette smokers in a cigar area was not pleasant for those that only smoked cigars (again, this could be pipes - I just don't recall).

I've been on and on about rights of non-smokers for years but we have no rights under the constitution (nor do smokers). And, the laws in the U.S. do allow smoking outside - in some states it requires that smokers be 25' from the doorway. It would seem that Regent could at least build a smoking area that is glass enclosed as it is on the Explorer. In the meantime, on the Mariner and Voyager, I quickly learn where the smokers are on the pool deck and avoid that area. I won't even pass by there when no one is smoking because the ashtrays stink.

Actually, many US Cities have banned outdoor smoking on all public sidewalks, beach and parks, restaurants, patios including one of my favorite towns, Carpinteria, Califonia.

You are correct, the is no US constitutional right to smoke. On ships, the issue is getting interesting. In some other Countries (notable UK) that are trying to extend workplace non smoking polices to ships in territorial water. Just as the ship casinos and retail shops are forced to close. one day in the near future, smoking will be also banned.

The problem with having a nonsmoking ship is that a number of officers and crew also smoke, especially officers. Since they are on the ship for months at a time, how would you handle that?
