Bringing booze into New Zealand

I'd like to bring some rum as gifts for friends. Is it better for me to purchase it at home or if I can buy it Duty Free after my arrival in Auckland before going through customs?

Check the NZ duty free stores online for brands and prices. I think you can preorder and pick up your purchases when you arrive.

Thank you. I checked the Aelia Duty Free site and their prices are higher than I would pay at home. I think I will put the alcohol in my checked luggage and declare it once I arrive.
