How does caviar in the surf work?

We have done several SB cruises but never one that offered “caviar in the surf”. How exactly does that work? Online pix advertising it show formally dressed waiters wading through water with caviar trays. Where are the receiving pax — on floating loungers in the water, or on the beach? Are there trimmings to go with it, e.g., blini, egg etc. and if so, how do you maneuver them? I understand it is done in the pool if weather is bad.

It seems like an odd and messy way to take in caviar but I have never tried it and am open. We will be on a couple cruises later this year where this will likely be offered based on location. Of those who do it, could you comment on logistical details and what you like about it compared with just ordering caviar on the ship whenever you want it.

This will explain what Seabourn do

It was one of the best days we have ever had

As a PS I wonder if Seabourn are limited to the places where they can have the Caviar in the Surf due to the fact that there seems to be many places that one is unavailable to take food from the ship ashore these days which is why Seabourn have it around the pool on the ship some sea days ?

They will come in a small motorized craft with the air horn blaring and several food/beverage staff (officers/chef included) will set up a surfboard with caviar on ice. They'll fix toasts with caviar and accompaniments and guests will wade out in the waist high water to take their turn sampling them. Meanwhile, beverage staff will uncork MANY bottles of champagne and wade out with plastic cups and provide copious refills.

Despite the advertisements, the staff are mostly in their casual uniforms (polo shirts/shorts) and not formal attire. It is fun nonetheless.

You'll only see this in select ports where Seabourn has private island or private beach club access (Caribbean/SE Asia). On other sailings, you'll either see "Caviar in the Pool" with a similar poolside presentation OR in cold weather destinations "Caviar on the Ice" with a deckside party (and copious vodka in addition to champagne).

Seabourn food and beverage events never disappoint.

Jeni - thanks - you answered my question. We're doing the Athens to Dubai in November and didn't think there was any spot to do an "in the surf" event. Poolside sounds lovely.
