We have 2 confirmed (phone calls from the hotels directly) reservations post cruise for Sunday 26th. La Concha and Condado Renaissance. Have time to cancel so TA will be in contact with them (and us) and I'll know where I'm staying after we disembark.

As soon as possible I'll post any and all info I can get.

Good luck to everyone - this has definitely been the most interesting cruise planning I've had in 26years.

We just stayed at DoubleTree on November 12 and 13. They were fully operational. Electricity (not by generator), pool, hot tub, restaurant on site, grocery store across the street. Traffic lights were not working but shuttle drivers seem to know what they are doing dealing with this.

Great news about the DoubleTree. We'll be there this Saturday. I've contacted them twice to confirm our reservation, which they've done. They've also helped me make arrangements for 4 members of our travel party to check in early as they arrive in San Juan before we do. The service from the DoubleTree has been spectacular so far.

Excellent, nice to hear, just read they are working hard to restore power to Old San Juan, hopefully the Forts will be open for our arrival Thanksgiving weekend.

We are staying at Double Tree by Hilton on Nov 23rd and 24th pre-cruise. Confirmed our reservation with Juan at the Hotel this morning.

Hi - we are in the same boat, so to speak. Are you on the Summit Jan 13? I am also flying to SJU on the 12th from Vancouver. I empathize! :(

No we are on the Jewel departing on Jan 14th. I am feeling better though, got in touch with the GM at Best Western and he has assured me that they are open, fully operational and taking reservations.

Happy to hear this - I have pre and post cruise rooms booked for a mid December cruise there (still have 2 other hotels booked just in case).

We booked the Sandy Beach Hotel for our arrival day of Dec 29, and the Embassy Suites by Hilton for the two days after our cruise.

Sandy Beach says we're ok, see you then in a phone call.

Embassy Suites didn't sound as reassuring and asked that we call back in Dec. anyone have any intel on both these properties?

This from another poster four days ago.

FYI: I called Embassy Suites San Juan to confirm our booking for January 13th and they said we should have gotten a cancellation email and that they wouldn't be housing people (other than government) until at least March. We never got the cancellation email so I just cancelled the booking myself.

We checked into La Concha yesterday. It was operating as normal and there were quite a few tourists, but clearly outnumbered by the relief workers.

We took a taxi to OSJ and ate dinner. I didn't see any shops open in OSJ but it was dark when we finished eating. There were plenty of bars and restaurants open. Lots of shops open along Ashford where La concha and condado vanderbuilt are located.

We are currently staying at the DoubleTree. This was our 3rd reservation as our first two hotels cancelled on us (Sheraton Old San Juan and Holiday Inn Express). The hotel has electricity, and offering full services. We checked in last night then grabbed a very good dinner at Bebos Cafe.

I will add to WildcatRock's post that there is plenty of hot water too! Dire tly across the street there is a large fully stocked grocery store which also sells beer wi e and spirits. I did t check closely for prices but a 6 pack of Cool Light cans was $3.99. I had forgotten my razors and they are less than half the price than I would pay in Kansas City, bonus! There was heavy rains when we arrived at 6 p.m. with streets in the San Juan and surrounding municipalities experiencing flash flooding. Our nephew was going to meet us at the airport and spend the evening with us but the roads west of S.J. we're too dangerous to drive. The locals seem very happy to see us and our taxi driver shared his hurriane story with us.

Has anyone stayed at the Renaissance La Concha? We are booked there for the night of 1 December.

Frank in cloudy and cool SBA

Some folks in our party stayed at LaConcha on 11/9-11/11. The place was in good shape as was the Marriott Stellaris & AC Hotel in Condado.

Interesting observation we made while in the hotel casino - they had a slot tournament and the prizes were generators (not big screen TV’s).

There was also a statement in our cruise compass that any large item such as generators that were purchased in the islands must fit through the magnetometers or they would not be allowed on board.

We have a pre-cruise and a pre-paid hotel reservation for 3 days at an Old Town San Juan hotel. It is called the S.J. Suites Hotel located at 253 Fortaleza Street in Old Town on They are not responding to emails or to phone calls. As I said, it is pre-paid on Hotels.com. Hotels.com says there is nothing they can do. Hmmm? Does anyone know if this hotel is operating? Thank you.

We have reservations at both Coral by the Sea and iberia Hotel. Never stayed at either....already had three hotels to cancel. Anyone have any experience with either of these "hotels" since the Hurricane? We are more than nervous because for Coral by the Sea, I am hearing bad things....iberia hotel had bad reviews before the hurricane. I have broken a rib in a silly accident and will have to cancel the cruise because obviously, I can't spend hours at the airport. Any information about these two would be greatly appreciated!
