Buy your stateroom credit now at a much better exchange rate then our banks are offering! Hoping to use ours for drinks and tips..

Drink packages and excursions have increased in price over the last few days..

I think the exchange rate on onboard credit is still a little better.

$450 onboard credit cost us $495 Canadian

as approsed to the current bank exchange rate ( 1.26 ) which would be $568.00

How do you go about getting it? Call their 1-888 number?

Wow!

$300 cost me $330!!!!

I did $300 in one stateroom ( $330 Canadian) and $150 in the other stateroom($165 Canadian)

When did you book your cruise? Maybe the exchange rate is tied into the rate when we booked? - which for me was quite good at the time!) I booked back in June 2014.

Did you originally book using a Next cruise certificate?

I just called now they are closed. I know last week 226.26$ Canadian funds at my bank got me 180$ US cash in hand.

thinking about calling to get $200-$300OBC. If the rates are any better. I have to admit i get slightly worried watching our dollar drop like this

We did this last week for our cruise in Feb. Called to put $500 down and was charged $550. I was so excited by the exchange rate called and put another $600 down and it cost me $660. The exchange rate cost me $110. I would have paid $ 1381 at the bank.Saved $281 by getting Royal to do it for me. I am not looking forward to what our Nov cruise will cost with the dollar diving.

Hmmm...don't quite get what you mean. We get an OBC but don't buy it. Ours is $100 so isn't that $100 USD to spend when on board? Our cruise itself is quoted in CAD, which is great (and a huge plus over other lines that charge in USD so you don't know your actual amount paid in CAD until you pay it out)

Even though you have paid for your cruise in CDN $ beforehand many people will spend varying amounts of money on board. Any money that you spend on board is charged in US$. You can buy an on board credit in US$ ahead of time and it will be applied to your account to offset what you sound on board....basically so at the end of the cruise you have no bill to pay. The exchange rates that Royal uses just changes and went from 10% to over 20% which is closer to the rate at the bank. Some who purchased a couple of days ago got a great rate at a 10% exchange.

Really no different than buying a beverage package ahead of time except instead of drinks you are buying US$

Thanks for explaining. Now I see what you mean...not an OBC you get with your cruise, but you can purchase credit beforehand. Never knew that.

Your comment made me curious so I just did a price check on our cruise (in Canadian dollars) and noticed for the first time since we booked in Dec that the price has increased. Maybe this is related to the exchange rate increase?

So my $450 US cost an extra $45.00 - $495 Canadian.

Looks like we recieved around the same rate. I wonder why everyone is receiving such different quotes...

Royal math...

Yes, that is probably the case. I would assume they have to increase the exchange rate at some point, especially now that our dollar is dropping so low :(

I just called the 1-800 number and purchased $500 OBC. The person told me that the cost in CAD funds would be $550. They sent me an email confirmation similar to the image posted by son3cruisers. Although they assured me that my $550 Canadian purchased $500 USD, the email confirmation does NOT state the onboard credit amount........it only says that I paid 550 in Canadian funds. Not sure if this worries me or not???

THANK YOU Sonsof3cruisers!!!

I just purchased $750.00 USD for $825.00. Figured better safe than sorry and what is not used is re-credited to my credit card.

I matched on the RBC site and they are quoting me $978.08 = difference of $153.08 which is significant since the dollar seems to keep falling.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Can you only use this on board credit for purchases in the ship or can you ''withdraw" funds from this credit for purchases on the islands? This way you take advantage of the generous exchange rate when converting CDN to USD.

If you have a cash account you can get money out at the casino for no extra fee. If you set up your account with a cc then they charge app 3% fee. We always have a cash account and did this last year. You can go down to the casino the night before and just get what you need to cover what you will spend on the island.
