Is luggage allowed on Minibus 86 from Kowloon Bay MTR to Kai Tak Cruise Terminal?

We will be arriving in Hong Kong a day before our January 7th cruise on the Celebrity Millennium. Does anyone know if luggage is allowed on the small 16-seater minibus #86 from Kowloon Bay MTR station to the cruise terminal?

I have been to Hong Kong many times and taken many of these small minibuses but never with luggage. Can't imagine room for me with a large suitcase, carry-on pully plus knapsack.

Has anyone ever one this before?

The alternative is catching the large double decker KMB bus 5R out of the Ngau Tau Kok Station but it is a longer ride (32 mins vs 7 min) and the schedule on the website shows M-F, Sat and Holidays. Is Sunday considered a "holiday"?

I have done a lot of research and don't want to go to the MTR to catch the minibus if it won't allow luggage.

Sorry, no can't do. PMB are designed for commuting without luggages, a small backpack on your lap is fine but they have no provision for bigger bags. Drivers probably won't even stop once they see your belongings to allow boarding along the routes.

Not sure if KMB buses will allow unless that route is an airport route. Take a short taxi ride, it's cheap & not expensive ... less than the price of a drink on the ship.

Thanks. That is what I thought. I guess it is for employees at the terminal as well as tourists wanting to sightsee; not for embarkation and/or embarkation.

What about the free shuttles to the mall? And which mall/MTR station is that?

Also taxis can be a problem too as many of them have their gas tanks in the trunk so not a lot of room for suitcases.

Those are courtesy shuttles provided to ship pax to nearby shopping malls, intended for their convenience while shopping - free of charge and no proof of purchase/min. spend required or needed ... please, let's not spoil it by turning it into port transfer with luggage, pre- and post-cruise. The shopper's shuttle do a loop to nearby Diamond Hill MTR Station, near/next to the indoor mall complexes ... additional runs by other mall probably at Kowloon Bay Station, as those are the closest.

Taxi fares from any of the nearby MTR stops are going to be cheap, inexpensive - around $4 to $6 USD per trip ($30 to $50 HKD, payable in local currency)

Those red Toyota sedan are fine for 4 adult pax (3 in rear + 1 in front) but will fit 3 large size (not jumbo/oversized) suitcases - we have yet run into problems with any "large" NPG fuel tank, AFAIK. Driver will bungee cord them securely if heading to the airport & HK roads & highways are well maintained and smooth, unlike those in our hometown of N.Y.C. :rolleyes: ... and you just hang on to smaller hand luggage, backpacks an duffle bags while riding the taxi.

Tip for everyone - for locals, the fastest & often the easiest way to get around, is, to ride the MTR and transfer ... with reasonable luggage & avoid the rush hour peak time as the trains will be packed full 105% plus. Exit at the nearest station to street level and if walking is out, join the queue at a taxi stand - lines will be there but they move fairly quickly and drivers do not BARK for short trips as there is plenty of trips for them to do. A straight taxi ride from KTCT to HKIA (airport) is somewhere between $350 to $400 HKD, or $45 to $50 USD, including tips & toll charges for the Tsing Ma Bridge - traffic permitting, 45 to 60 minutes.

With 2 to 3 travelers, it really isn't much more than a taxi to the Kowloon AE Station and then the AE fares (yes, discounts for 2 or more travelers offered ... Google the HK Airport Express for details) ...

Thanks for your reply but we did have a problem once trying to get a taxi with a small box. We had bought my sister-in-law and small sound system and NO TAXI would pick us up.

I don't think getting the MTR and then a taxi on a Sunday to go to the cruise terminal will be a problem.

After more research it seems that the ferry from the North Point ferry to Kai Tak is doable. This only makes sense if your hotel (like ours) is in North Point.
