Any ideas for cheaper flights Boston area to Hamburg for July 1 cruise?

Why would anybody "hate" on you?

But not knowing if this is a one-way trip (i.e. cruising back) or if it's a round trip to Hamburg or an "open jaw" trip, i.e. returning from somewhere else, or how long you want to be gone, or whether you want to fly in economy or business class, or how many people are traveling, or... well, you get it. With more information we can be more helpful. Without it, not so much.

Start by going here: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and put in your information so you can see what the options might be. Then book through the airline or a reputable online travel agent like Expedia.

But I’m up for any tricks/ideas.
Do lots of work, and expect to spend six or eight hours looking for flights.

Other than that, without any information nobody's going to be able to give you much useful advice, as Gardyloo says. The only thing I'd add is that you should tell us how far you're prepared to go out of your way, and how much extra travelling time you're prepared to spend in each direction, to get a cheaper fare. An extra hour? An extra day?

Air fares are complicated, hence the questions. You aren't going to get a simple answer that will magically do the job for you.

And consider flying into an airport other than HAM and taking a train for the final leg of your journey. Prices can fluctuate widely for relatively nearby cities, based upon our old friends Supply and Demand.

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is whether you want a bare-bones discount carrier that will charge extra for anything and everything. Those can have appealing "base fares", but when you add in everything.....

You might also look at flights out of other airports ... check air carriers you would consider flying and check for origination/destination. We often fly domestic (on points) from Dallas to a cheap European hub in the US. Good luck! That July 1st NCL out of Hamburg looks like a great cruise. We board the Jade on July 15 when it pulls back in[emoji3]

Condor Airlines:

26 June departs Boston 1705 (WS3713), one stop in Halifax, change to DE2415, arrives FRA at 0945 on 27 June

18 July departs FRA 1540 (DE2074), one stop in Baltimore, change to B61326, arrives BOS at 2150 on 18 July

$969.98 including carry on and checked bag of 23 kg.

Take the train from FRA to Hamburg.

Thank you all for ideas. We’ve looked into ideas but still haven’t booked because they end up costing too much so far with extra days, etc.

We’re holding out hope for just one or two extra total days. Kind of stretching our vacation time to do a 14 day cruise. Looking into even flying into London. One way is cheap but round trip is really high.

We really appreciate all the input and will keep checking on all these ideas.

At some point though, you need to pull the plug and book. You've waited really late, and I'd jump on anything you find at this point.

Quick question: you say you haven't booked because everything you've seen so far ends up costing "too much. Define "too much."

You know, it really helps us to help you if you give us some information, otherwise all you're going to get is generalisations, platitudes and wild guesses.

But at least this allows us to identify that you're probably talking about the Norwegian Jade sailing from Hamburg on 1 July 2018, returning to Hamburg in the morning of 15 July 2018.

Is that correct?

You'll see it said here from time to time that "hope is not a strategy". Never was that more true than for your present predicament. You want to book air tickets for what is possibly the most expensive time of the year for flights to Europe, and you've left it so late than even top dollar business travel bookings are now about to get into full swing. Beggars can't be choosers - if you want real help, you really have to tell us what you want, what you can afford (money and time) at both ends of the trip, and how much hassle you're prepared to put up with to save how much money. As waterbug123 says, "too much" doesn't tell us anything about your parameters.

If I've guessed the cruise correctly, then FWIW it looks like you may currently still have some chances of getting tickets for about $1,500. This is for flying on 29 June (which is more sensible than flying on 30 June anyway), and you'd probably need to take an overnight stop somewhere on the way back.
