Iona

Given that the first cruise bookings will go on sale in about three months I am really amazed that there is so little information released about the detail of the ship. I emailed P&O about three weeks ago asking if Iona has a ballroom, and got what looked like a generic reply saying they have only released the name of the ship and no other details other than the general outline published on the P&O web site. I know quite a few people have already booked their cruises for 2019, so it isn't long before people will start looking at 2020. However for ballroom dancers, not even knowing if the ship will have a dedicated ballroom, means people will book ships where they know they will be able to dance. It's pretty strange!

After all the shipbuilders must already have some plans so P&O must know whether or not there will be a ballroom on this ship, as well as its sister ship that will launch in 2022.

On the other hand if anyone has had any discussions with P&O officers or officials who might have indicated if it will have a ballroom like the Crystal Room on Britannia, or something a little better, then do let us know.

Good question, we would also like to know as we also enjoy dancing and it plays an important part of our cruising holiday.

I would also have hoped for more info by now. We are away on a long cruise when she is likely to go on sale and I just can’t be bothered to waste my holiday time waiting around to be seen by the onboard future cruises team, especially when there are always loads of people waiting and no obvious queueing system. We might have fancied the maiden cruise but suspect the cabins we are likely to want will be sold out by the time we are back in the U.K. and can talk to our Personal Cruise Specialist. I would like to have at least seen the deck plans by now.

I’m also curious if there will be any change in the embarkation procedure?! We went on Britannia from the Ocean Terminal and had to wait 2.5 hours in an extremely hot and VERY packed terminal (we arrived at the correct time). Such a fantastic trip onboard but with small kids it was worse then waiting at an airport as there was no room to move. Add another 1500+ people and if the set up is the same that would really put us off.

Sounds as though they had a problem, as Britannia embarkation is usually pretty quick by P&O standards.

Have had two cruises on Britannia in the past 3 months. One a long wait the other got straight through.

P&O boarding does seem to be a bit of a lottery.

With the extra passengers on Iona it could be a problem as there are only so many check in desks at each terminal.

I agree that if the ship is now being built there must be deck plans available. One hopes the builders aren't making it up as they go along!

For those who have been to the Mayflower in the last couple of months may have noticed some building work going on next door at what would be berth 104/5. This is preparation work for a certain new ship.

Do P&O issue a precise deck plan and artist impression cabins before the sale?

Or do you have to take a leap of faith.

Their website full information of all their ship and I am sure full deck plans and examples of cabins will be released before it goes on sale.

According to the website 'What's in port', Barcelona are opening a new terminal for the Carnival group's next generation LNG ships, due to be completed spring 2018.
