Rum Cake questions.

Once it got out that I was going to Bermuda I've been getting requests to bring back rum cakes. I have a few questions which I hope can be answered.

How much does a rum cake cost in the Bermuda Rum Cake Factory at the Dockyard?

Do you have to declare the rum cakes when you return to the USA?

If so, how many rum cakes are you allowed to bring back.

Thanks in advance.

Pricing is here:

Yes, you must declare all food products you bring back into the country, but should not have a problem with cakes. Not sure on quantity restrictions but I don't think there are if the items are for "personal" use.

Hope that helps some.

Rum cakes do not count as alcohol, so as long as you have less than $800 worth, you are fine. Over $00, you need to declare and pay duty.

To be clear, that is a total of $800 for all things brought back, not just rum cakes. :D

This thread makes me smile. I enjoy rum cakes, and so, on our first cruise to Bermuda, I brought a few rum cakes in different flavors back from the Dockyard for my office. (Folks going on a trip in my office traditionally bring some "local" food back to share with co-workers, usually sweets.) Well, it turned out NO ONE liked rum cakes. They were sort of picked at a bit on the first day, and then they sat there in the kitchen.

Fortunately, I am now retired and will have no pressure on me the next time we visit Bermuda. :D

FWIW, my wife hates rum cakes. They are definitely not for everyone. ;p
