Connecting in Zurich Airport (ZRH) accessibility

Recommended Posts

We are traveling from the US to Barcelona with a connecting flight in Zurich.

First of all, how is Zurich for accessibility/wheelchair assistance? I read somewhere there may be a terminal change. Would this be the case in our scenario? We have a 2 hour layover arriving in Zurich on a United Flight operated by SWISS and departing Zurich (to Barcelona) on SWISS.

Finally, the Zurich Airport website states:

"If you are carrying medication (aerosol pumps, syringes, etc.) or rely on special aids (e.g. prostheses), please have the relevant medical certificate available and notify the security staff or your airline."

Does "medication" include prescription pills?

Thank you.

Zurich Airport is very accessible and friendly. If you are a wheelchair passenger, and Swiss is aware, there will be someone to meet you at the gate (with your wheelchair, presumably), to help you navigate the airport. You will have to go through passport control in Zurich (which is outside Schengen/EU), and then again in Barcelona. Passport control is simple and easy. You will then board a monorail type thing that gets you to the European terminal. Listen for the yodeling and the mooing effects while on board.

As for prescription medication, my personal experience has been that there is no problem as long as it is in its original prescription bottles. If you are taking something very unique, you might want t check with your prescribing physician.

Have a wonderful time on your cruise!
