Review: QM2 Britannia Single Stateroom

I had the absolute pleasure of crossing the Atlantic on the QM2 in May in one of the new Britannia Single Staterooms (KC) on Deck 3 so thought I'd do a review and share with a community from which I have learned basically everything I know about Cunard.

First Impressions

Having seen photos and the virtual tour on the Cunard website, I thought the rooms would be rather lovely. Stepping into 3002, my home for the next seven days, for the first time in New York did make me smile.

The room is perfectly proportioned and designed with two oversized windows, ample storage space in the wardrobe for one and a luxurious bathroom fit out comparable to the Grills (but sans bathtub).

The Windows

Two oversized (obviously due to these rooms being located along a former passageway) ensured the room was always filled with light, even on a cloudy day. And being on such a low deck you can see the ocean even in bed:

Here they provide a nice frame for the much loved Pol Acker provided at embarkation (which was gifted to my cabin steward):

And it was lovely to watch sunrise and sunset too:

The Bathroom

I think the photos speak for themselves. Great to have a proper glass door for the shower and the marble countertop added a premium feel.

The Wardrobe

There was plenty of space for all my clothes needed on a transatlantic crossing to do the dress code justice.

There was also a handy slide-out tie rack:

And capacious drawers for folded garments:

The Location

Located midships just aft of the Grand Lobby, which is very handy for the Britannia Restaurant, Queens Room, Chart Room and Golden Lion Pub.

Also noticeably less movement being so low and central within ship, which was noticeable when compared to the Library etc.

Great photos, the room looks lovely, it almost makes me want to travel solo.

Thanks, Host Hattie! It certainly helps one more readily accept the solo traveller premium.

For completeness there's also an offical Cunard video of the room but without the bathroom.

That is a beautiful stateroom and I have to say much nicer than my double on deck 5 and don't get me wrong we were very happy with our room and where it was [apart from the deadly square door knobs] I agree with Host Hattie makes me want to sail alone.

I've seen these rooms and think they're beautifully designed. I would be very happy in one of them. However the price is rather high and sometimes it's less expensive to book a double room with port hole or balcony and pay the single supplement. Shop around.

I had this exact cabin between HK and Singapore and found it perfect also. It had lots of space and definitely felt more spacious than a standard balcony cabin for two.

I was a little worried having the first cabin into the access corridor when booking but didn't get any noise from the door to corridor as not many people used as a walkway so it was very quiet.

I did have a minor issue with not getting hot showers, they tended to be warm instead, but would have that cabin in a heartbeat again if travelling solo.

It was fun watching the tenders leave when in port as I was very close to them and waved at people I knew as their tender was leaving.

I spoke to the room steward to enquire if I could view a deck 2 single cabin to compare size but there wasn't one free for me to do so. He felt the deck 3 cabins appeared more spacious too, although the brochure states deck 2 are larger. If there was a choice, I'd take deck 3 over 2 anyday.

The location was perfect for the end of a busy night in the casino, not so much though for my pre-dinner drinks in the Commodore Club!

The loo is pretty posh, thanks for the insight.

On behalf of your Cabin Steward: "Timeo hospites et dona ferentes."

Indeed :D

It's certainly a nice surprise for the solo traveller compared to some other single staterooms out there.

Great pictures I have one of these booked for a Cape Town to S’ton in 2020

Thanks! That should be a wonderful voyage from Cape Town. I'd like to do the Cape Town to Fremantle voyage one day.

Agreed. I booked this voyage when the season was first released and was reasonably happy with the price.

Thank you for your review and the photos.

I've booked this cabin later in the year - and after having been only in balcony cabins before, I have to say that I'm now quite excited at this lovely one.

Same. I've previously done QG and PG on the taster trips between Southampton and Hamburg and felt the quality of the cabin was at least equal.

Out friend had one of these on our May crossing.

It was sooooo much nicer than our Britannia balcony cabin, I was jealous.

You know they've done a great job when the cabins compare favourably with balconies :)

Thank you for posting this. Did you think this was a noisy location? It's a busy deck and then you have the MDR below...just wondering.

You can hear people talking in the corridor as they walk past, but there are doors at each end so no other noise comes through and it also seems to discourage traffic. I certainly didn't hear anything from the MDR or the Queen's Room.

I actually had the opposite issue with the shower being rather hot and having to set it a few degrees below 38C to be comfortable.

One of the ladies at my table had previously sailed in the KC (Deck 3) cabins and far preferred it to the KB (Deck 2) cabin too.

I can imagine it would have been most entertaining to observe the tenders doing their thing in port. Not a benefit I had considered or experienced being on a crossing!

I've just got back from Norway on the QM2. I had one of the single cabins on deck 2 for the first time. It was a lovely cabin but I found it very noisy. The engine noise and vibrations were very noticeable and there were very loud intermittent rumbling noises and banging from the crew area below on deck 1. Because of the noise I would not book one of these cabins again which is a shame as apart from the noise disturbance they are really nice. I think I'm more suited to a cabin on a higher deck.

I stayed in 3012 during the crossing btb last year- and loved this cabin- great as described my my foreposters. The bathroom was wonderful- i just loved it. On the other hand on my Fjord voyage, which ended this last sunday, all singles were already booked. So I got a regular Balcony - Britannia- these bathrooms really are in dire need of replacement. Maybe it was just these outdated bathrooms in comparasion with these new ones on Deck 3- but still- they are old, tired and worn- not to mention these shower curtains, allthough brand new- still awfull!

It's a shame that the Deck 2 singles are impacted by engine and crew area noise below. The Deck 3 singles seem to sell out first on future voyages I've looked at but your experience steers me away from considering the Deck 2 ones.

I've just rebooked 3002 again on a short 2nt cruise.

I have made sure that it is marked "do not upgrade" as the cabin is perfect and I don't travel solo very often as I am usually with my husband but he couldn't get away for this trip. I said no upgrade as I could be moved into one of the oceanview cabins near the bow which vary in size and are darker due to only one window or to an obstructed view/sheltered balcony which I don't like, so it's wonderful to have this same cabin again.
