I bought Russian nesting dolls & a music box in SPB along with magnets w/amber inside, a Dalecarlian wooden horse sculpture in Stockholm, & a ceramic house (representative of the buildings in Old Town from Estonia. I bought lots of sweets & treats for people as well. Jerky & marzipan from Estonia, chocolate from Finland, etc.

I bought my Granddaughter a special edition Pandora charm from Sweden. It was the Ameliaborg castle with a 14K gold crown on bottom. Not sure if it's really what the sales girl said it was but I do know it's not available elsewhere. Regardless she loves it.

Favorite souvenir : my kuksa cup ( careful , some are manufactured, some are hand made) Yes, it takes a few cups of coffee ( or tea) to break it in, but after that you have it forever and you choose one that fits your hand perfectly. https://ultimathule.fi/en/291-kuksa-cups/

Beautiful wool sweaters in Tallin ( still great condition after years of use)

Did you get these in Helsinki? I don't want to make assumptions. And at this rate with all of the wonderful suggestions I'm going to need a 2nd suitcase and a 2nd job for all of the unique items.

Is there a place in Estonia that you would recommend to buy Amber?

Thank you

ML

I have twice purchased amber in Tallinn. There are lots of shops selling amber and the prices are, indeed, better than the prices I found at the tourist shops in St. Petersburg. I don't know that any one shop is better than another. The shops in which I made purchases had the item that most appealed to me at a price I considered fair - you may have to shop around to find a piece that is special to you.

I can't remember the name of the shop in which I first purchased amber, but know that it was located on Pikk, left side of the street (we entered the town through Fat Margaret on this particular occasion).

On a later trip, I purchased a lovely amber pendant in the old town. The shop was located on Vana-Viru and had a big sign over the top of the shop that reads, in large black letters, "Baltic Amber".

Check-out some of the many shops offering amber and you are certain to find something that appeals to your taste and budget.

I have a collection of Russian lacquer boxes. I didn't start out intending to collect them, but I saw one I really liked, then another and another. The price can vary dramatically, regardless of the size, so I recommend looking at the quality of the artwork.

I also have a Dala Horse, and whilst the traditional ones are red, they are available in all sizes and colours. There is a shop just off the main square on the Gamla Stan which specialises in them.
