Behavior on Carnival ships ?

One of the best cruises we ever had was back on Miracle when she was brand new and sailing out of Baltimore (yes Baltimore) but we have been hesitant to go back to Carnival following all the reports and videos of bad behavior on the ships.

I’d be grateful for an honest assessment from recent cruisers - does Carnival deserve its new reputation ?

Not sure what new reputation is being referred to but I have never seen any bad behavior in 22 years of Carnival cruises. Yes, you will see rude passengers and an occasional over indulgent (beverage wise) passenger but that's on most of the main stream cruise lines. For recent reference, we were on Conquest this past Spring during Spring Break doing a family cruise and while there were a LOT of 20-somethings on that cruise having a good time, there was zero bad behavior that we observed.

9 or 10 Carnival cruises and I have never seen any bad behavior of any sort. Of course, there are cases where there are problems and they are the ones that are always publicized. Wouldn't hesitate to go on a Carnival cruise at any time. In fact, 40 days to go for my next one.

I have been on 10 carnival cruises--last one a few weeks ago...never saw anything bad on any of them.

But then again, I don't go looking for others behavior...I enjoy myself and my time with family and LOVE my cruises.

I've never witnessed the bad behavior that I have read about. Actually ran into a guy on Regal Princess who was drunk, loud & knocked over hubby's beer. Same cruise an older lady shoved her chair between me & the railing where I was watching a juggler, almost shoving it onto my foot in the process. If I had not backed up, it would have been on my foot. I was actually more ticked off at her than the drunk guy. He at least offered to replace the beer - she was just downright rude.

I think there is always potential for bad behavior on any cruise line - there is a large amount of people from different backgrounds & different mindsets. The vast majority of cruisers, though, are enjoying a vacation & are pleasant & entertaining to be around.

When you look for "bad behavior" you will probably find it somewhere. I have cruised on 18 cruises across the lines and Carnival doesn't deserve it's "Bad Reputation." I have had some rude people on the cruise lines, but what do you expect? I see MUCH WORSE BEHAVIOR driving around on the Interstate.

I was on the Vista this year in Caribbean and also recently on the RCI Serenade of the Seas in Baltics. We had more rude folks from Europe on the SOS ship.

My cruise on Carnival was more enjoyable and I liked the way folks dressed nicer too. Oh and the beds are much nicer on Carnival. I will defend Carnival to anyone who bad mouths them.

Just asking a simple question, no need for barbs.

I'm pretty sure firefly wasn't referring to your post but rather to the reports and videos that you have read/seen and referenced which lead to false impressions. Lots of people like to seize on isolated incidents as evidence of general behavior and complain but I'm thinking that you were looking for or hoping for actual recent evidence to the contrary, correct?

Hi

My thoughts would be that you have been on a Carnival cruise. That sounds like personal experience. So you have to decide, are you going to judge from your own experience, or by somebody else's review?

Let's say you go to a restaurant and enjoy a meal and the next day you read a bad review? What do you do? Start questioning your assessment, maybe you just got lucky.

I don't know how you decide things. Try it again and if you enjoy it, the next time you read a bad review, ignore it.

hope this helps

I haven't seen anything worthy of You Tube fame. I think you will find most of the negative associations from people who either haven't ever sailed Carnival or who haven't in a very long time and are just itching to point out the very few instances where people aren't on their best behavior. A certain poster comes to mind. I'm sure they will be along shortly to tell you how horrible Carnival is .

I first sailed on Carnival 20 some years ago as a teen. I saw about the same amount of bad behavior then as now - not much. There are a few pushy or disrespectful people but, overall, no real problems. The worst behavior I saw was from one of the onboard comedians. He was very rude around the ship and in his show.

The worst thing I ever saw was a guy in the hot tub making fun of chubby women in the hot tub. I almost resulted in a fight. I have seen many funny people such as the guys in the hot tub drinking from wine bottles in the blue jeans and one in his BVDs. These guys might have made some people upset especially when kids started coming to the pool.

I have only been on 7 Carnival cruises and have never seen anything out of the ordinary...just a handful people that might have had too much to drink, but so what.

I will say we were on the Triumph in 2015 out of Galveston, and it seemed like all the people on that ship were nice and friendly. Must be a Texas thing LOL.

What bad behavior are you talking about? I have been on 22 cruises on Carnival and have never seen anything close to bad behavior during a cruise. I did see a video online about a fight on Legend, but one fight on one cruise is not indicative of behavior I have seen on Carnival.

33 cruises on Carnival (46 total) with 2 more booked for Nov. and Dec. Haven't seen really bad behavior, just annoying kids around the pools and running the halls late at night and millenials being rude with self absorbed silly behavior in the casinos sometimes. But have also seen the same on Holland America and NCL. I would venture a guess that many of the people who really bad mouth Carnival have never been on Carnival.

You started a thread 4 years ago asking this same question and wrote of your experience aboard the Miracle. Why? 4 years have passed so I don't understand your saying the bad behavior is " new " as you've obviously had this opinion for years.

I see you sail Cunard and NCL, perhaps they are a better fit for you.

We sailed on Miracle back when she was new and sailing out of Baltimore, but haven't sailed on a Carnival ship since. I enjoyed that cruise probably more than any I have been on since, in spite of paying for fancy suites and all kinds of upgrades - Miracle was the best, and the passengers who sailed with us were really nice people, quiet and well behaved.

In the years that have passed all I ever seem to hear about is bad behavior on Carnival ships (low prices maybe ?) and YouTube seems to be littered with nasty Carnival fight videos.

So is this all being exaggerated, or have any regular cruisers noticed a change over recent years?"
