Skagway--Train up or back--preferences??

From my understanding (from a local Skagway resident) in the morning (taking the train up) there is a likelihood of fog and not seeing as much as you'd like. By the afternoon it typically burns off so the return trip should be clear. In the morning a highway ride over the mountains will get you out of the fog rather quickly.

Have you considered renting a car and taking the trip on your own? It is a lot less expensive than paying for the train/bus. Driving a car also allows you to stop where you want, when you want and for how long you want. There's basically only one road so it's very hard to get lost.
