We are on Star 2 Feb to Hawaii. We chose baja 222 many months ago . Today we printed our luggage labels and saw we had been moved to baja 614 . We were a bit shocked but called TA who said it was a free upgrade. It is the same balcony cabin ,no bigger ,no better but just further towards the aft. We had picked a fwd cabin . Does anyone know if we will be better / worse off with this location . Thanks so much for any replies .

Princess considers anything mid ship to be an upgrade over anything forward. If you are at all susceptible to motion sickness you will be better off in the new location. Enjoy your cruise. :)

Baja 222 is a Category BE forward cabin.

Baja 614 is a Category BB mid-aft cabin.

A significant upgrade within the same cabin class in Princess' eyes. And in mine as well as cabins forward of the forward elevators are very noisy and convenient to not much other than the theater and casino. If you have fixed seating dining in the Amalfii Dining Room you would have had quite a hike across more than one deck. Your new location is close to the aft elevators but still close enough to midship to be convenient to pretty much all public areas. The price difference between the two cabins was probably significant at the time you booked. All in all you did very well with this upgrade.

Your TA should have forwarded to you the updated Booking Confirmation that they received as soon as the upgrade was made. If you are curious (as I would be) you might want to ask them for a copy so you can see what the date was and then ask your TA if they ever intended to notify you personally or just let you be "a bit shocked" to discover it on your own.

You will be the same distance from stairs/elevators. You will be closer to the dining rooms, laundry room and just about everything else as you will not have to walk the entire length of the ship to go anywhere. From my point of view, this would be a good deal.

It seems to me that the travel agent dropped the ball, here. I'm sure that he/she received an advice from Princess, and that should have been forwarded to the OP.

In hind-sight, no big deal, because it sounds like OP, will be happy with the new location.

A few years ago we received an upgrade notice from Princess that we were being moved from A201 to B-something amidship. Mrs.XBGuy was disappointed. So, I called Princess and was able to get us reinstated in A201. That's when I learned about the "No upgrade" flag.

Mrs. XBGuy wants to feel the motion, and she wants to be as far forward as possible. So, my life is good, it turns out that my wife's preferred cabins are among the least expensive.

:D

I agree with Thrak. We love the STAR and will be in a BB category on Baja on our Hawaii cruise next fall. You were LUCKY to get such a nice upgrade--enjoy!:)
