Adventure of the Seas Freedom Dining

My wife and I are travelling on Adventure of the Seas in August and elected to go for Freedom/My Time dining. I've looked at our online cruise planner and see that there is an option to reserve times in the MDR. As it's our first RCI cruise I was wondering if this was essential or is it OK to just turn up in the evening and wait? Can waiting times be excessive? We have no problem with sharing tables - in fact, we prefer to!

Not essential to make reservations, you can show up whenever you want. Our experience has been that the wait times for a party of two are not bad.
