Government Shutdown

I've been trying to find answers to this all morning, but most news sites just say some national parks will remain open, others won't. They say there will be more accessible than the last shutdown. Does anyone know the current status for Pearl Harbor, Haleakala, and the Volcanoes area? We leave for our trip in less than 2 weeks, so this is concerning. :( I know we can't be the only ones concerned.

Only essential services will be working. They won’t be paid for the time worked.

Update: Website recreation.gov is shut down, but nps.gov is still active. It states that the Arizona Memorial is still open during the shutdown. Walk-up tickets only, no online tickets available during shutdown. This is good news.

First, the chances of the shut down still going on when you get there are VERY slim.

Second, each federal park is different, due to their physical properties. For example, in our area we have a very large National Seashore that has many roads through it. It can't be closed for that reason. Yes, some services may be reduced or not offered, but the park can't be closed.

I just tried to book a tour to Haleakala through Valley Isle Excursions and they said the park was closed and they are not even taking reservations until the shutdown is over.

The following is the latest from KITV Honolulu:

"During the lapse in appropriations, Haleakala National Park will remain as accessible as possible, while still following all applicable laws and procedures. All park regulations remain in effect, according to Polly Angelakis, Chief of Interpretation & Education at Haleakala National Park.

She says access may change without notice, and there are no park-provided services. All restrooms, visitor centers, and other facilities are closed. Emergency medical response is extremely limited. Back country camping and cabin permits are not being issued.

The Summit District is closed to all visitation during sunrise hours (3 a.m. - 7 a.m.), to protect visitor safety and park resources. It will be open (with no restroom facilities or other services) at all other times.

Electronic message boards outside the park, as well as signs posted on park buildings, will remind visitors of conditions.

Access/Closures:

SUMMIT DISTRICT: CLOSED TO VISITATION DURING SUNRISE HOURS (3 a.m. - 7 a.m.). OPEN (with no restroom facilities or other services) at all other times.

Kipahulu District trails and Summit District trails: Open (limited emergency response).

Hosmer Grove Campground and Kipahulu Campground: Open (no restroom or other facilities).

Backcountry cabins: Cabin users with existing reservations should make alternative plans. Cabin refunds may be requested via recreation.gov after federal operations resume.

All restrooms in both districts: Closed.

Headquarters Visitor Center, at 7000 feet of elevation: Closed.

Haleakala Visitor Center, at 9741 feet of elevation: Closed.

Just on the local Hawaii news. The Arizona Memorial will be open thru Monday but after that ??? they do not know. The Mo and the Pacific Aviation Museum are privately owned but the shuttle leaves from the AZ Memorial property.

I doubt the shutdown will still be going on in two weeks.

Right now I wouldn't worry about this.
