How does the NCL CruiseNext Deposit work?

About to go on a cruise in 90 days...(Come on spring) and pretty sure going to do it again. I had heard about the deals when booking a cruise on a cruise, but has anyone done it?

 

I looked at the web page and it works off of $250 deposits. As you make more you get more OBC.

 

So spending $500 towards a future cruise would get $250 in OBC...Ok seems to make sense, but is it really that easy?

 

The Cruise in May will be two of us, but the next cruise will include family. So if she puts down $250 and I put down $250, would we each get $100 OBC or would we get the $250?

 

Just have everything booked and now looking at all the other options...lol

You don't need to book a cruise on your next cruise. You can purchase up to 4 CruiseNext certificates, worth $250 each, toward any cruise you choose to take in the next 4 years. You can only use 1 certificate per booking. If you buy 1 certificate, you'll get $100 off. If you buy 2 certificate you'll get $250 off. With 3 it's $375, and 4 you'll get $500 off. So basically, if you by 2-4 of them, they are half off.

 

As an example, on our last cruise I bought 2 CruiseNext certificates it cost me $250. I'm going to use one of them when I book my next NCL cruise. My sister is planning to go with us. I gave her the other certificate for Christmas this year( since they are transferrable).So, she'll get $250 off her booking.

 

I'll be buying couple more on the next cruise.

I did, just didn't think actual experience would reflect how simple it seemed. Also didn't mention the OBC being returned or lost or even just left on Account for a future cruise.

Think of this way. you buy 2 certificates, they're going to charge your Onboard account $500. Then they'll give you a $250 OBC to pay for half of it. So, bottom line is you end with $500 worth of certicates that you own $250 for when you pay your bill at the end of the cruise, along with any other charges you made on the ship.

It is non-refundable OBC but the OBC can be used towards the purchase of the certificates. If you buy 2 certificates and nothing else for your whole cruise, at the end your bill will be $250.

 

Also, above you asked about you & someone else buying - if you each buy 1 they will cost $150 each ($250-$100OBC). If you buy 2, they will cost $125 each ($500-$250OBC). You can very easily transfer them to someone else.

We just got off the Getaway on Sunday. We purchased 4 deposits for $1,000 and got $500 OBC right away so basically, we only paid $500 for 4 $250 deposits. Any OBC you do not spend will go back on the card you used at embarkation. :) I asked about a million questions before we committed to the Cruisenext deposits.

The OBC is really being used to pay for the certificates themselves. If you buy 2, you will have a $500 charge placed on your account, and a $250 credit placed on your account. You are paying a net of $250, so that is what you would still owe on your account.

And important to note you can only use one certificate per cruise per stateroom...so if you buy four you have go on four cruises..or have four staterooms....or transfer them to someone else...or any combo of that.

I see they have now created a separate category for Haven/Suite deposits, which have a smaller cash back OBC ($100 on a $500 deposit vs. $100 on a $250 deposit). I thought that you used to be able to combine two regular certificates into a suite deposit. Is that no longer the case? Or am I mis-remembering that it was ever possible? I've never purchased one before, what was hoping to pick a few up on my Feb cruise since I am clearly addicted at this point.

Yes, you used to be able to combine two certificates into a suite deposit but they changed that in 2016.

It's not really an obc so don't think you now have $125 to spend on drinks. Lol.

 

The charge you $250 then just deduct $100. Leaving the net of $150 charged to your sign and sail

 

If you buy more than 1 cert then the deduction is $125

 

I bought 2 last month for $500 less deduction of $250 so net charge $250

They love to call it an obc of course so the uninitiated will think they have onboard money to spend.

To add to the confusion, there is even an opportunity for additional benefits if you withdraw $100 of the OBC from the CruiseNext purchases to play in the Casino. The Casino will then credit you an additional $25 (or $50) in gaming credits. Someone here will know the details better than me, but just wanted to throw that in! :)

Actually there wouldn't be any obc to lose since it comes off the cost of the certificate. If you buy one certificate $250 is charged to your onboard account, $100 obc is credited to you onboard account, meaning you are actually only paying $150 for the certficate which is worth a $250 deposit on one cabin on a future cruise.

This was my thought - while I'd like to book Haven, I have know way of knowing whether the pricing will work for me until I am ready to book. The big difference seems to be that if you buy the Haven certificate, you can use that as the sole deposit rather than make up the difference at the time of booking. I think if you are combining certificates for a suite deposit on Haven, you would still have to put down an additional $1000 (for a total deposit of $1500) at booking. But I agree, it's probably not worth the gamble since I don't know what I will book, so I will likely just purchase the regular certificates. It's still a discount.

And that's why these boards are so helpful...

Can I book the August 2016 cruise now (to ensure our spot) then buy a CruiseNext certificate on board on our March cruise, which I could then apply to my August 2016 cruise? Or, would that be a no since I had already booked the August cruise?

 

Sure, I could hold off until after the March cruise, buy the cruisenexts then, and then come home and book, but if possible, I'd like to do it before to secure the cabin.

 

Does anyone know? TIA

Recently, I was on the Jade and they offered even more credit if you booked the new cruise while on the Jade. Maybe that will be offered in March. You cannot use the certificate if you already booked the cruise, must be used at time of booking. I plan on knowing what cruise I want to do next time I cruise so I can book my new cruise while at sea.

The certificate is only good as a Deposit on a cruise not yet booked.

In my experience, it doesn't work like that. If you buy a CruiseNext deposit, you can ask the future cruise rep for a voucher for this casino offer. At the casino when you redeem this voucher, they will give you $125 in slot play credit, for which you only be charged $100 on your onboard account. There is no cash involved for you to take out and put back into your account. They're letting you buy $125 worth of slot play for $100, that's the deal. And then I'm pretty sure you have to play all $125, it has no cash value until you actually risk it (and win).

 

I don't know if you can get two casino vouchers if you buy 2 deposits, three vouchers if you buy 3 deposits, etc. I think it may be a one time deal, once per person per cruise.
