Cunard Line History

i did 25 cunard cruises in the period 1990 - 1999 . ( 20 on the vistafjord - ample single cabins ) under Trafalgar House Cunard suffered caused by a rather bad management - in a period all other companies were building new ships Cunard only had the Princess and the Countess - far too small

also far too different items - the QE2 with different classes , the very luxurious Goddesses , Vistafjord and Sagafjord said to be 5 stars ( but very different !!) and the 3starred Princess and Countess

nearly impossible to manage such a line - especially the Sagafjord had a special nature ruled by a "dynasty"on board

also 2 ships of the same company doing a full World cruise QE2 and Sagafjord ( sometimes half empty )

in 1994 Cunard acquired the Royal Viking Sun and immediately the standards dropped

jokes were made : company in trouble takes over another company in bigger trouble

then Kvaerner took Trafalgar and they sold very quickly to Carnival

in the nineties Cunard heavily lost share of the market - every week in the UK papers " 5 starred luxury for half price" - fiiling up the cabins
