Anyone cruised to India before - how did you get your currency?

Does the ship offer it or do you use an ATM?

The cruise line (Costa) did not offer exchange facilities onboard, we used ATMs in both Munbai and Goa without any problems. Inside the Mumbai Cruise Terminal there are both ATMs and money exchange shops.

Indian rupees are only available in India. Not allowed to take their currency out of the country- that’s why you can’t buy it abroad

In 2016 bought INR online through one of the currency broking companies. There is a limit to how much you can bring in, but for cruising that is probably not a problem. I was on a land tour and one night when one of our tour ran out of rupees our bus driver had to take her and our guide to six ATMs before they found one that worked.

Anyone visiting India, unless they are a Parkistan or Bangladeshi citizen, can take in up to Rs. 25,000, which is roughly £276

The same amount applies to travellers leaving India - they can take a maximum of Rs.25,000 out.

The problem is purchasing it in advance.
