Purchasing watches on Princess ships

I bought a seiko watch on my first cruise many years ago. It was somewhat an impulse purchase as I just really liked it...no idea if I got a good deal or not. It still works fine and is one of my favorite watches - in part because I bought it on my first cruise.

Fossil and Michael Kors watches are essentially the same functioning, only the branding differs. My girls bought rose gold watches and still wear them.

Check the patter for pricing, but it’s reliable to buy on board. And crew can replace with a new battery at point of purchase for you. [emoji568]

I purchase watches all the time on the ship. I know what they cost in the USA and always got a better price on the ship. I have purchased 5 Citizen Eco drive watchs 2 Philip Stein and 3 Tissot and never had a problem with any of them. We never purchase anything from EFFY.

Husband frequently purchases Fossil watches at the numerous Outlets Malls we visit on road trips across America.

Frequently, not because they break, but because he forgets to pack an 'everyday; watch. Never had any problems with any of them, except need for new batteries.

The only Fossil watch he has bought at full price was on a Princess ship. It 'died' within weeks of purchase. New batteries did nothing. Watch was well and truly broken. Should have returned it on next trip.

I loved my Tissot I got in St. Thomas. The saffire crystal was truly scratch free after many years wearing it at work. I was bummed when it finally bit it and was gonna buy another. Then I realized I really had no need for a watch. Today a watch is pretty much just jewelry. We have the time on our phones, in our cars, at work, at home in every room and pretty much everywhere else.

Except a cruise ship. We don't always carry a phone around and there are few around the ship. The wife has one of those $10 watches she got onboard for that.

I'd really like one of those those eco drives but it would likely end up in my dresser drawer.

Shucks :(

We purchased from Effy last trip and had a problem but was fix by our local jeweler quickly and for just a couple of dollars.

We also purchased two Citizen Ecos, onboard as gifts, and they are worn everyday and have no issues. We purchased 3 watches, two Steins and one was a Bremont, in DI on Aruba and they were nothing but nightmares. Dealing with Bremont in London directly was great and resolved quickly. DI is a scam store and had to get Princess involved. I spent 3 months getting things right.

I have read horror stories about Effy jewelry purchased on Princess ships. Now I’m wondering about the quality of watches sold on the ships. Does anyone have experience with purchasing a watch while on a Princess ship? On my upcoming cruise I have a large amount of OBC and I thought that my wife may be interested in getting a new watch.

Better off going to Wal-Mart.

OP: if you still have nonrefundable OBC left after you buy your watch (or if you change your mind)...gamble in the casino.

We usually have between $800-1000 OBC and most of it is nonrefundable.

Calculate how much you'll be using for grats, dinners, excursions. Now you know how much "fun" money you have.

Go to the casino, set up an account at one of the slot machines. Put in a portion of your fun money and play slots for as long as you're comfortable. One time, 20 times, win some, lose some, your choice. Cash out. Put the money in your pocket.

Go back on another day and do it again. Keep doing it until the fun money is used up.

The benefits of doing this include: cash in hand and you may qualify for a casino rate. It happened to us. We booked 5 cruises at a very nice discount, when we found out we had the casino rate.:D

Yes. I bought a Citizen Eco-Drive drive watch on board a Princess ship about three years ago. The price was slightly lower than the same watch from Amazon - I checked Amazon's prices before the cruise. So I saved a few bucks, and saved the state tax I would have had to pay also. The watch has performed as advertised - no issues.

And yes, I had a lot of non-refundable OBC to use up, so it worked out well for me.

DH bought that watch on board, too. He loves it. He also laughs at me every time I have to re-set my Rolex because I don't wear it enough on a cruise (never when off the ship) for it to self-wind.

I have bought all my watches on board ship and never had problems with any of them.

My present ones are two Eco drives ,one bought 5 years ago and the second bought last year on ship. Wonderful watches need no batteries, much cheaper than buying on shore:D

They will have a few sales during the cruise so don’t jump in on the first day.Normally prices only go down.

I disagree. I have never seen them put anything "on sale" during a cruise that was sold at a higher price earlier in the cruise. They may move watches out on a table in the walkway (never the high end ones) but they will be the same price they were on day 1. Of course, if they were marked down on day 1 already, you would obviously get that reduced price.

Someone had mentioned the sale early in a sailing; they often will give you a discount on day 1 and 2 if you spend over a certain amount.

This was awhile ago so I don't know if it is still true. I was on a B2B and I noticed the watch the first week and looked up pricing. I spoke with the sales people and they told me about the extra discount in the first day or two (they knew I was on a B2B) which was another 10% or something like that. I then waited until that day and they were right, it was the best time to buy it.

I bought a Fossil watch on my first Princess cruise 13 years ago. It just stopped working last month.

I bought one in St Thomas. Wore it so long the stainless steel wore off the back. Still runs lol. Wearing a citizens Eco drive now.
