Paying for a cab

Recommended Posts

We will need a cab from the cruise port to our hotel, Blue Horizon, and then the next day to go to the airport. Is it safe to pay the cab with a credit card or do we need to purchase Canadian dollars? Everything else we will use a credit card.

Thanks.

Safe? As in 'safe to assume you will be able to'? Yes - an occasional cabbie will try the 'my machine is broken' angle, but even if it's legit broken they'll all take US cash too (although at a less-than-official exchange rate). If you mean 'is it safe or will my card data be stolen?' then I haven't heard of any scams involving card skimmers and cabs.

I have never heard of credit card stolen from a cab company. Just let the cab driver know you plan to pay by card before he loads the luggage.

  • get another cab if he does not want your card
  • in the old days.... the driver can call dispatch to process a card. Not sure if it's still true today.
