Hi AnOnymously...you may need to keep "bumping" this thread because people may just vote and not comment so it will drop down in the " pecking order" and other potential voters who come along at a later time may not pick up on this thread....just a thought

To me it is a no brainer and fair on everyone - everyone pays their fair share.

Just imagine though, CC would be very quiet with no tipping debates !

We would still have the ubiquitous

Dress codes

Falling standards

Drinks prices

Select v saver

Best ship

New ship

P&O v other lines

Unfounded gossip and subsequent panic

True gossip and subsequent panic

And that's just to name a few but yes the tipping ones are always prolific.:)

The point is they keep people posting and interested in reading the threads.

I can only imagine that all those people jumping up and down boasting about taking their auto-grats off as soon as they step foot on board will be aghast at being duped into paying them by an increase in price.

I am aghast at having an increase in the auto tip to subsidise those who are removing it and not giving anything.:D

As a consumer: Yes, it creates more transparency.

As a cruise worker: Yes, it creates a stable reliable wage.

As a cruise company: No, it makes your fares appear higher than other lines who don't do it, and a % of people will book elsewhere not realizing they will pay the difference later.

Message to Anonymosly ,

Sorry I did not see you had a poll up and running ,I was having a quick read of the posts

on the poll I started the other night and some had asked me to do a yes or no poll for them .

I had set it up and running before I read anymore posts .

(Teach me trying to work and browse at the same time):o

So once again sorry and if Sharon or any other moderator would like to pull my recent

YES or NO poll down then that's fine by me .

Regards Kalos

I voted "No" because I recognize the difference between a "gratuity/tip" and a "Service Charge".

A gratuity is a token of appreciation for work done beyond the call of duty.

An SC is a charge that shifts the cost of labor from the owner to the customer.

SC should be included - as in "service compris".

As it is definitely a service charge, I have voted yes.

For similar reason I have voted no.

This will put the price up, and then tipping will still be expected on top. So here we go again....

Only if they follow one of the luxury lines where they say that tips are included and anything further will be refused will I vote yes.

Then by definition there is no such thing as a gratuity in a cruise ship unless something is done beyond the call of duty. Bringing you your food or making your bed or showing you to your table are not beyond the call of duty. Gratuities should be rare and not proscribed.
