New? CAS solo policy...only studio can be booked --did I miss the announcement ????

I called today with general inquire about booking solo sometime this year. I have cruised solo 2 times before with CAS. Was taken aback to be told that I could no longer book an interior room with discount..but ONLY a studio. Was told it was a new policy. WOW..so now I would only get the marginal discount I usually get on a much more expensive cabin- 1. eliminating any savings and 2. limiting me to certain ships. and 3. with the possible elimination of drink card with discount only booking (discussed on this forum) there is no benefit for me to book with CAS as a solo.

This is very disappointing indeed.

I thought I had been keeping up with all the CAS "news" here..but had not seen this policy mentioned...so please excuse me if this is "old news".

Wow! I haven’t heard that, but my last solo was through Royal. I certainly hope that’s not the case - I enjoy sailing solo and while I liked my cruise in a studio, I would be extremely disappointed to be relegated to only ships with studios. Hopefully someone knows for sure!

So hope this is not true! Only certain ships have studio cabins and they book quickly. Is this true for all players who travel solo or just for those who get a 10%-20% discount. For example, if my play qualifies for a comped inside, can I still only get a studio if traveling solo?

I called a week ago and qualified for a balcony cabin. So, you don't have to cruise in a studio, at least as of last week. When I asked about upgrading to a suite, I was told that they have changes the rules for solos in suites. My 10 day cruise on the Breakaway is costing $1,600 to upgrade to a penthouse suite, but when I priced another cruise, it would be $4,100 for a 7 days cruise for the upgrade. They said upper management doesn't want to do anything for solos when upgrading to suites.

I don't know...but the rep today (she has always been very knowledable) was very clear that the policy has changed..and as a solo..I could only book a studio if I wanted to use my CAS discount.

I was able to book a 16 night TA in a large balcony on Epic for 2019 using a CAS discount.

This was 2 weeks ago so maybe it changed after that.

I just called my contact at CAS. He said no problem for solos to book any cabin, with one caveat... upgrade to Haven, solos pay double. He'd never heard anything like jaja reported. Don't know why jaja's contact said what they did? Suggest you call back and talk to someone else.

I sent a follow up email to my CAS agent this AM --here is my question and her reply..

Myemail this AM requesting clarification

“Iknow you said I could not book an interior using my discount….onlysolo…BUT..please clarify..if I did book interior and did not usediscount..do I still have to pay for 2 people..or do I pay for one as a solo?”

Herreply

“If you do not book a studio youpay double occupancy”

Additional info..

I have been booking with CAS for years...twice solo..all other with DH..

Only once was my interior cabin (solo) comped..it was a slot tournament cruise. All others ..discount only.

Hmmm... perhaps it depends upon the level of rated play.

Just two weeks ago I was confirmed in an H5 Balcony Suite on the Courtyard, as a comp. I travel solo to gamble and was not subjected to anything other than the normal admin, port charges, taxes, and service charges for the Bvg and dining packages.

But this wasn't an "upgrade" to Haven; it's an outright comp in Haven.

Specific to the OP, required to use Studio rather that "inside".... from a yield management point of view, it doesn't seem to make any sense. Every time I've looked at last minute price drops, Studio prices don't. It's been cheaper to stay in a balcony rather than Studio, as if the Studio rooms are in high demand.

The only thing I read on here about elimination of the drink card was for those booking rooms through CAS with Total Rewards (like through Caesars). With previous play on NCL ships and booking through CAS that offer should still be extended whether it's a total comp or a discount.

I guess CAS has so many players they don't need some of us anymore. Not a problem. I just need Caesars got bought a management company that owns another line. Then they can comp us something other than NCL. We quiting playing on board. There's no reason to give them any more money.

Clearly you are not gambling enough. Try hitting the max spin button a little more often. Drop in enough coins and CAS will bend over backwards with comps.

I hear ya !!! I spend a lot of time on the slots..but not always big bets. ;)I mix it up a lot.

But..the agent did not tell me it was due to my play..but rather "new policy" re: solos.

But if someone is reducing the benefit for giving them my money, the last thing I do is give them more.

I know.;) I just emailed the agent ...asking specifically if this was for all CAS solo players or just me for some reason like my CAS rating... or because they don't like me (LOL) even though I am loyal NCL cruisers who is 1 point away from Platinum Plus:rolleyes::o

We are platinum plus and really out there looking at other lines. I wish we had a land based casino close that comped another line. We've considered MSC, but heard mixed reviews. It sure looks like Royal is much more transparent about comps. It also looks like it's still based on play, not loses. Sad. NCL used to be the best players club.

All of this being said, what happens with solos who want to cruise on ships without studios? Do they have to pay double occupancy?

Sadly..yes.. if I understood the agent correctly.

I've been booking through CAS. I just called to see what I would qualify moving forward and was told that I've been reduced from 20% discount and drink card to 10% discount without the drink card.

what? no more drink card via Total Rewards/Caesar's 20% discount???

link pls!

edit:

ahh.. seems like the caesars 10% discount tier doesnt get drink cards anymore.

but diamonds (20% ncl discount) and above still get the drink card
