Getting of ship in San Juan Puerto Rico after checking in

Hi. We are booked on the Carnival Fascination for this month and I was wondering if you could check into the ship and board and then get off and spend a few hours in Old Town San Juan and then get back on before the ship left. We have a 1pm check in time and the ship sails at 10pm and we wanted to spend the afternoon in town, not on the ship. Does Carnival allow you to get on/off/on in Puerto Rico before sailing? I called them today and the agent didn't know.

In the past it has never been a problem, I ccan't imagine why they would have changed the policy.

In 2008 we boarded at 1PM and then went into Old San Juan and had dinner and then reboarded
