What ever happened to the veracruz?

Two things I remember about the Vera Cruz

Last sailing the Coast Guard put everyone off for safety reasons. The

pax all had to go home......no sailing.

The other thing is that they sailed with several caskets on board because

of the average age of passengers, they always had deaths on their

5 day cruises.

My dad sailed on a cruise line called veracruz to the caribbean, We just wanted to know what happened to them.

The Veracruz was tiny even for her time. Some of the walk in closets on new ships are bigger than her cabins. The showers were round and the curtain stuck to you all the way around. The waiters were old timers and real pros where you might find only a couple on todays ships.Seeing Cancun when it was just a crossroad with a highway into the jungle. That is what I remember from Veracruz.P.S. All liners have storage for the deceased.

My gosh. That was our first cruise experience. We went with our two sons (ages 7 & 5). Children under 10 were free on that cruise. We flew to Montreal and sailed back to New York. I think we were one of the youngest family on the ship and our kids were a hit.

Now my oldest, now age 35 is taking his first cruise since then. March 9th on the NCL Dawn. Amazing, huh.???

We have been on 8 since then.

My wife and I sailed on the Veracruz way back when, LOL! I just found our brochure about the ship. It was rough sailing to Cozumel, but all in all it was a fun trip. Wow, the most expensive 7 day Cruise was $755 for an outside room and 2 beds! Wish I could post some pictures!

Our first cruise experience too - we took our children on a Fall Foliage trip from New York to Montreal around 1985.  Ship was in terrible shape then-broke down in Quebec and they had to bus us the last leg to Montreal.
