Torn between Blue Kay and Tropicante

Thread title explains it all. We are a family of 5, kids ages 8, 5, and 5.

-Clear, caribbean blue water with a soft sandy ocean floor (not rocky!)

-Soft sand beach

-Minimal sea grass

-Good food

-Nice changing area

I was set on Blue Kay, as it appears there is decent snorkeling near the shore. I understand you can take a boat out to the reef at Tropicante... while our 8 year old can snorkel I'm not sure how the 5 year olds would do. However... The reserved loungers and no entry fee at Tropicante caught my attention. Plus I understand they have bike rentals, banana boat rides, and cheap massages.

So, what's the consensus?

I think it depends on whether you want quieter, less vendors, and more space or more compact, in the middle of things.

However Costa Maya is really not that big - easy enough to walk from one to the other and check them both out if you don’t like your first choice, or even if you just want to try both!
