We will drive to Bayonne in May .

We always leave home Friday afternoon and usually drive to DC . On Saturday we have toured the Smithsonian museums, capitol, mall, zoo, Ford's Theater, and Mt Vernon . The Washington monument is in constant refurbishment and we don't want to bother with details for white house tour.

We have also went up 81 through Pennsylvania and toured Gettysburg. We enjoy history.

We tour Saturday then drive to an hour or so of port to embark Sunday morning .

What are other ideas through Pa? We can easily drive 81 . Or could go up Virginia and do something else in DC or maybe Baltimore. Looked at nationals schedule and they are playing out of town .

Hubs is not interested in NYC.

Thanks.

How about Philadelphia (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc) or the Amish Country?

We've been to Philly but Amish country sounds fascinating. Or a place like Gettysburg. We did the NP battlefield/museum/bus tour but is the walking tour around town worthwhile?

Actually DH probably would veto Amish country. I think he sees it as shopping.

Guessing that Williamsburg / Yorktown would be too far out of your way? I like Carols idea about Amish Country - beautiful time of the year to travel there and there is always more to see every time your visit. There are some beautiful areas around Philly as Carol above mentioned - downtown will begin last minute school field trips and tourist season (ie Liberty Bell area). If you just wanted to chill in a beautiful historic Jersey area - I would recommend Cape May.

We are good history nerds. :DWe've had annual passes to Williamsburg a few times and seen Yorktown and Jamestown and Carter's grove when it was open.

What do you do in Amish country other than shop?

Amish County - seems all we do is eat and shop so you are so right! As Carol above indicates - NJ may be a good choice that most people take for granted especially because it is off the traditional tourist path. http://www.state.nj.us/nj/things/historical/

Sometimes the AC casino hotels have amazing price deals for rooms .........and while not historic, Atlantic City can be entertaining from a "vintage" point of view not to mention entertainment possibilities.

Well, it’s your destination, but a great day can be spent in jersey city, you have the liberty science center, plus the ferry to the SOL and Ellis Island (maybe sign up for a hard hat tour).

We've been to see the Lady and Ellis Island .My husband's great dealgrandmother came through there from Europe. Her family had tickets for Titanic but kids got measles and they didn't get to sail.

That looks really interesting. Thanks!!

I was born and grew up in the Trenton/Princeton area. I have fond memories of Washington's Crossing. Some of the things Princeton has are the Battlefield, Princeton University, Morven, the house where Einstein lived, Nassau Hall where the Continental Congress met, and Bainbridge House. I was married in the University Chapel and one of my classmates owns Terhune Orchards. My parents hosted tours of the Princeton Cemetery where Grover Cleveland, Aaron Burr, and John Witherspoon (signer of the Declaration of Independence) among others are buried. Lots of accommodations on Route 1 in this area.

When is your cruise? Rough and Tumble is having it's Spring Steam Up May 11th and 12th. The show is on RT 30 in Kinzers PA about 10 miles east of Lancaster. There is tons of old steam driven equipment there. They do all different demonstrations all day long. If you like this type of stuff this is one of the best events to see.

It's also very inexpensive. The cost is minimal, $5.00 to get in. Food is also very reasonable. They only have a few events each year. Saturday's show is more crowded than Friday's but it does tend to have more stuff running. I like Friday's because there is only a fraction of the people there. You have a chance to talk to everyone. There is a lot to see you can easily spend most of the day there.
