3 Nights from LA to Vancouver

We are wondering if anyone has done the short one way cruises between LA and Vancouver. Thinking of doing this with adult children for a short vacation. Would they be bored with the sea days or are there lots of activities for all ages? Do they tend to be a more party going crowd? How is the service since you don’t get to know the staff too well on such a short cruise? Thanks for any comments.

We always have enjoyed the short get-a-way just be mindful of any motion sickness needs for your family. Out of the 4 times we've sailed this itinerary only once did we not have an issue with severe swells and resulting motion sickness. (And we've gotten better and knowing how to deal with it)

Back to your question. There is a full schedule of sea day activities, plus pool time, and afternoon tea. Depending on what you like to do. Our problem was usually deciding what to skip rather than trying to think of something to do.

I’m 30 and my husband is 26. We’ve been doing these small coastal cruises for quite some time when we were both in our early 20’s. these are perfect cruises for adult children - lots to do and more “party crowd” then a 7 or 10 day cruise.

We are doing the LA to Vancouver route next May. Thanks for the information and I'd love to hear from you, DnA2010, when you get back. We don't usually have any problem with sea sickness on ships but this cruise we did reserve the cabin at the very aft of the ship because we'd heard the view so nice. Now I'm thinking that might not be a great idea...

Don’t worry about aft. I don’t think there’s as much of an issue as far forward. The propellers are almost aft which stabilizers the fore/aft movement a bit, if there is any. You’ll feel far more movement on an upper deck, even mid-ship, than aft.

We did the same itinerary 3 years ago on the Ruby. Plenty of activity for adults. No idea about kid's programs. Staff service was just fine. The only thing that we decided was it was way too short of a cruise for the hassle. Any cruise less than 7 days is probably a non-starter for us these days. Anyway, have fun on the shortie cruise if you do it.

Back in 2016 I did a short cruise from Vancouver, BC to San Francisco, CA. Service was excellent but the cruise seemed "rushed". There just was not enough time for me to see/do everything I wanted to do. I would prefer not to do another short cruise. A shorter cruise can be a good option if that is the only time available or if you want to see if a ship/cruise line is a good fit without investing more time or money.

We went on a 3 night LA to Vancouver many years ago as a young couple with no kids and it was fun. They had just come out with the Poker Pro games and we cleaned house and ended up making money on the cruise. (In case you saw my earlier post about not gambling...this was before our 10 day cruise to Alaska when we had lots of sea days and too much time spent in the casino. Didn't have to learn that lesson twice!!!)

Bring the Dramamine or patch and you should be fine!

We love these cruises. It's a great getaway. We love Vancouver so count our first day in the city as part of the experience. you could have a sunny day at the southern end so pool activities are in full swing. The further north you go, of course, the weather gets more iffy so plan on lots of indoor activities. There are lots of families/weddings on board and they always seem like they are having a lot of fun. There are usually Birders on board looking for unique sea birds and they love to share information with you. Time goes by very fast and the only negative is that you can't wait to cruise again so be prepared to book another cruise as soon as you get home.

Just got back from a Vancouver to LA itinerary on the Star. We loved it! We were upgraded to an aft balcony cabin. Highly reccomend. The views were fabulous. Started out rainy but as we headed south it was sunny and warm enough to book an afternoon in the Sanctuary.
